5. A reason for the high reactivity of ozone (O3) is due to the molecule having a formal

charge of +3. The molecule in order to become more stable must react with one or more

substances to cancel out this charge, making the molecule very reactive.

6. A reason of the high reactivity and dimerization reaction of NO2, is due to the existence

of an unbounded lone electron on the nitrogen atom.

7. The oxidation number or oxygen in the compound hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is -2. The

molecule is reactive, due to the property of the molecule having an overall charge of -2.

9. The site attack of hydroxide on boromethane is due to the property of hydroxide to be

more polar then the bromine atom attached to the carbon.

10. The oxidation number of boron is -5; the aluminum atom also shares the same -5

oxidation number. A reason for the reducing capacity of these two ions is the capacity for

both of the atoms to possess the oxidation states of either +3, or -5.
