WHI.14c: The student will apply social science skills to

understand the social, economic, and political changes and
Learning Objective cultural achievements in the high and late medieval periods by
explaining patterns of crisis and recovery related to the Black
Death (bubonic plague)

Students will work in groups using www.sutori.com to create a

storied timeline of the Black Death. They must discuss each of
the following topics:
 How the plague came to England
 Parts of Europe that were affected by the plague
Pedagogy

 The approximate death-count

Activity
 How the Black Death affected the feudal system
 Decline of Church influence
 Disruption of trade
Students will have time in class to work on the assignment.
Students will also be able to use the collaboration feature on the
website to work on it in groups after school.
Technology

Students will use www.sutori.com, which is a free site that will

allow students to create a storied timeline. This will be done in
Technology
groups, allowing collaboration via the website to complete
outside of school hours.
 1. Open the web browser of your choice (i.e. Google, Internet
Explorer, Firefox, etc)
2. Type in the URL: www.sutori.com

3. If this is the first time using this site, click “Sign Up” in the top
right corner

a. Sign up using Google, Office 365, Clever, Facebook,

or your email

b. Follow the prompts to finalize the Sign-Up process

Directions for Use 4. If you already have an account, click “Log In” in the top right
corner

5. Click the “Create Story” button on the screen

6. In the new story, you can change the banner image by

clicking on the banner and then clicking on the 3 dots in the
top right corner of the banner and then clicking “Edit”
 7. Insert the title by clicking “Insert title…”

8. Insert a short introduction and heading by following the

same procedure as you did the title

9. To add information to the storyline, hover your mouse over

the light blue line in the middle of the page until a “+” pops
up

10. Click the “+” sign and then choose one of the given options
that you would like to insert

11. You can add as much as you would like and be as creative as
you would like
12. Make sure to discuss each of the 6 required topics:
a. How the plague came to England
b. Parts of Europe that were affected by the plague
c. The approximate death-count
d. How the Black Death affected the feudal system
e. Decline of Church influence
f. Disruption of trade
13. Your work is saved as you go along so you do not need to do
anything to save it
14. We will present in class. You will only need to remember
your log-in information to access it during class.
