Learning Objective 7.8 The student will edit writing for correct
grammar, capitalization, punctuation,
spelling, sentence structure, and paragraphing.

Activity We will open class with Grammar Time! Grammar time is an

interactive Smart Board activity where the kids and I will go
through slides on various things like identifying whether a
sentence is compound, complex, both, or simple. The goal of
the activity is to have the kids get familiar with these new
educational technologies, all the while get the juices flowing
towards making the day more productive. The practice with
fixing the sentence errors, and adding proper punctuations
will help the kids further achieve understanding the
associated SOL.

Technology/ Materials Smart board

Directions for Use 1. Go to the link below.
2. Hit “Open in SMART notebook express.”
3. Allow the program to run flash.
4. Go to the next page and have a student of your
choosing come up, grab a pen, and drag one of the
terms to it’s cooperating definition.
5. When all correct, move to the next slide.
6. Play hangman with the kids to reintroduce the terms
simple, complex, compound, and compound-
complex.
7. After, go to the next slide.
8. Have the kids volunteer to go up to the smartboard,
grab a pen, and add proper punctuation wherever
needed.
9. After making sure each is correct, move on to the
next slide.
10. Have kids volunteer again to go up, grab the pen,
and fix capitalization errors where needed.
11. Move on to the next slide.
12. Read the sample sentences aloud, and have the kids
identify what type of sentence each example is. Drag
the appropriate term to the sentence after properly
categorized by the kids.
13. Move on to the last slide.
14. To wrap up, read the sample sentences aloud. Pick a
kid to take a shot at identifying the sentence. Check
if he/she is right by tapping the grey bar under each
sentence.
