Each year we sing over in
the shopping centre as part
of a fundraiser for the
school. This year it will be
on Thursday December
20th. All children will be
asked to wear a Santa hat.
Christmas holidays commence
at 12.00 on Friday 21th and
we will return on Monday 7th
of January. Please note it is
a half day on Friday 21nd for
all schools.

December is always a busy time here in St Kevin’s as we prepare for
Christmas. All our children will engage in Christmas art & crafts. They are
already busy preparing for their Christmas plays.
We wish to take an opportunity to share with you some of our Christmas
customs that have been established in our school to help create a positive
learning environment for all our children while celebrating the spirit of
Christmas.
December 14th: Christmas Performances and plays.
All our classes will perform a little Christmas play or Carol service in our school
hall. Families and friends are invited to attend their child’s class performance
on the day. Due to space restrictions we ask that buggies are left outside.
For the purpose of ensuring we have space for all families, we request that you
stay in the hall for your child’s performance only.
Tea and coffee will be served before each performance.
We traditionally hold raffles at the end of the performances of each year
group. These prizes are all from donations received to the school. Therefore,
if you have any gifts or prizes that we could use to create some fantastic
Christmas hampers for our spot prizes we would be extremely grateful if you
could drop them into the office or give to any staff member.
All money received goes directly to purchasing additional resources for the
school.
Christmas Breakfast
Each year we hold a Christmas Breakfast in the school hall for all our children.
This year it will be on Friday December 7th and we hope to have a very special
guest on the day!!
The Christmas breakfast is a lovely experience for all our children to come
together with their class mates and share a breakfast experience. We always
invite parents to help their child’s class for breakfast if they wish.
Timetables will be issued closer to the day.
As there is no cost on the day however we always welcome cakes & bakes to
share with all our children. Each year local businesses sponsor cereals to help
keep the costs down. If you wish to help on the day or drop in some cakes on the
morning of the breakfast it will be most welcome.

If you are doing a Christmas Hampers for Children
Christmas clear out,
our Early Intervention We will have Christmas Hampers for the children, similar to our
Special Class
Halloween hampers. There will be one per class. Tickets are €1

The raffle will take place during our final school assembly.

Good News
We wish to take this opportunity to wish Margaret good health and best wishes
as she commences her maternity leave today.

Margaret’s class will be cared for by Niamh our current Special Educational
Teacher. We are delighted Niamh will continue Margaret’s great teaching and
will guide our Senior Infants children through the Senior Infant programme for
the remainder of the school year.

Niamh has been introduced to the class and we anticipate a smooth transition.

The teaching and non-teaching staff of St Kevin’s Junior School

are mindful of the pressures placed on all families over Christmas.
Therefore, we have requested that no Christmas gifts are to be
given again this year. However, we do welcome cards especially
homemade cards!

If you have more than one child performing on the day please leave your children until the
last performance for collection! This allows you to enjoy the Christmas show while
knowing that they are cared for by their class teacher.

We request that no recording of the performances are made and no posting of any
photographs on social media.

We are a nut free zone! Every year we have a

number of children with nut allergies and this
year is no exception therefore we wish to give a
little friendly remainder that no nuts or nut
products are allowed in school. This includes
chocolate spread! Thank you.
