Also called: oral cavity cancer

Cancer that develops in any part of the mouth.

Common
More than 1 million cases per year (India)

Treatable by a medical professional

Requires a medical diagnosis

Lab tests or imaging always required

Risk factors include tobacco use, heavy alcohol use and human
papillomavirus (HPV) infection.
Symptoms include a sore that doesn't heal, a lump or a white or red patch
on the inside of the mouth.
Treatment includes surgery and radiation therapy. In some cases,
chemotherapy may be required.

People may experience:


Pain areas: in the mouth or mouth and face
Pain circumstances: can occur while swallowing
Mouth: bad breath, drooling, dryness, red and white plaques, sores,
ulcers, or white tongue
Speech: abnormal tone of voice or impaired voice
Throat: difficulty swallowing or soreness
Also common: bleeding, coughing, enlarged neck lymph nodes, loss of
taste, swollen lymph nodes, or weight loss
