Overview of the lesson: Lesson’s objective was reviewed with the students. The teacher used
various concrete representation of division. Plates were used to demonstrate division. Concrete,
pictorial, and abstract representation were used in today’s lesson. The students were highly
engaged and were active participants during the demonstration. students were called to the
front of the class to demonstrate division as well. Gradual release of responsibility was evident
during the lesson. Words problem were worked on during the demonstration. The
demonstration was in alignment with one of the lesson’s objective which was to use models to
solve problems.
Various groupings from whole class, pairing individual, and groups were used during the lesson.
The use of the bell was well executed. It kept the students on task.
The use of puzzles is always a good way to develop critical thinking skills

Areas for development: The activities were in alignment with two of the objectives. It wasn’t
clear how the students explore two meanings of division. What are the two meanings?
Although puzzles develop critical thinking, but the questions from the puzzle piece are at a first
grade level.
