What’s in the C1 computer test?

You have 55 minutes to complete the following exercises:

1) Cloze Test: this consists of a short text (about 200 words) with 15 gaps, where a word or words
have been taken out. You have to complete these gaps, choosing from a drop-down menu of 4
options. The missing words are usually a mixture of grammatical and lexical items.

2) Grammar: this consists of 10 questions which test different grammatical areas. Each question has 4
options to choose from. In some cases you have to decide which of the 4 is correct and in others
which of the 4 is incorrect.

3) Word Formation : this consists of a short text (about 150-200 words) with 10 gaps, where a word
has been taken out. You have to complete these gaps, forming a new word from the word given in
brackets.

4) Reading Comprehension: this consists of a text of about 400 words, which has been divided into
sections. You have to read each section and then answer the questions which follow. There are 10
questions in total, some of which test comprehension and others lexis in context.

5) Listening Comprehension: this consists of an audio recording which is in 2 parts. The first part is
approximately one minute and is followed by 2 comprehension questions, each with 3 options to
choose from. The second part is approximately 3 minutes and is followed by 6 comprehension
questions, again with 3 options.

The total mark is a percentage and the pass mark is 60%.
