Topic: Phonics
CVC Words
K.FFL.PA.2 Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables,
and sounds (phonemes).
a. Recognize and begin to produce rhyming words.
b. Count, pronounce, blend, and segment syllables in spoken words.
c. Blend and segment onsets and rimes of single-syllable spoken
words.
d. Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds
(phonemes) in two- and three-phoneme (VC or CVC) words, excluding
CVC words ending with /l/, /r/, or /x/.
e. Add or substitute individual sounds (phonemes) in simple, one-
syllable words to make new words.

The teacher will remind the students that earlier that day the
class learned new CVC words. The teacher will tell the students
that CVC words will be found in their homework, classwork,
and books that they read.
The teacher will have her own paper up at her desk under the
camera that projects the image on the smart board. The teacher
will roll the dice. When the teacher rolls the word cat, the
teacher will color in the car on her worksheet. The teacher will
repeat this two more times.

Remind students how the

The students will pair up with a partner. They will each have
their own worksheet and dice. One student will roll their dice,
and both students will color the CVC word object that matches.
The students will repeat this back and forth.
The students will be reminded that knowing your sight words
is important because they will appear often in their books,
homework, and classwork.
The students will be asked to write a five sentence story in
their journals using at least three sight words
The teacher will again remind the students the importance of
knowing their sight words well. The teacher will ask the
students if everyone was able to complete their worksheet
game. The teacher will ask students to raise their hands and
say some of the sight words that they found on their sheet.
