Overview of the lesson: Lesson started with the teacher reviewing place value with the students
which was the previous concept taught. The teacher continued by making connection between
the previous concept and today’s lesson. The lesson’s objective was reviewed which was for
students to able to multiply three to four-digits numbers by one-digit. Regrouping strategy and
area model were used to teach the concept. The lesson was modeled by the instructor using
various examples including words problems.
Students worked individually to complete some examples given by the teacher.
Class rules were reviewed
Areas for development: Reduce the amount of time spent on whole class instruction. Thirty
minutes was spent on whole class instruction. As a result, some of the students were becoming
restless.
Student-centered lesson
There was no evidence of differentiation in today’s lesson.
Make the classroom more inviting and stimulating by posting students’ work on the wall as well as
having a word wall.
