Introduction
Leather Designing is one of the most rapidly growing fields within the umbrella field of Fashion
Designing in India, Leather goods manufactured in India, such as bags, shoes and belts are in high demand in
India as well as in the international market. It focuses on an integrated design perspective within the ambit of
industry requirements. Keeping in view the needs of the industry and the nature of the field which requires
evolving with changing times, the programme encompasses areas of leather garments, fashion goods, personal
lifestyle accessories and footwear.
Need for the project
> Foreseen demand in future for similar setups.
> Studying space which is more functional and interactive to the people
> To solve a problem that has to be aesthetically pleasing, functionally working and have a good ambience
Aim
To bring the practice of learning through Practical Methods and training in a single Campus through com-
bining the Functions of Institution and industry by building an Institute for Leather Designing, Production and
Outlets.
Objectives
> The leather design programme is highly structured and focuses on developing a holistic professional
to meet the human resource requirement of the leather industry.
> Exposure to the industry through field trips, tannery training, industry internship and graduation projects are
an integral part of the curriculum,
> People get connected to all the products from the place of production and gets an oppurtunity to see all the
available designs through a public square design.
> People are moving downtown for jobs, but also for the pleasures and benefits of cultural exchange, walkable
streets, parks, and public squares.The public square has always been synonymous with a society that acknowl-
‘edges public life and a life in public.
Methodolgy
> It focuses on an integrated design perspective within the ambit of industry requirements. Keeping
in view the needs of the industry and the nature of the field which requires evolving with changing times, the
programme encompasses areas of leather garments, fashion goods, personal lifestyle accessories and footwear.
> The use of a square changes during the course of the day, week, and year. To respond to these natural flucta-
tions, flexibility needs to be built in.
