Properties of Square2
Properties of Square2
In geometry, we learn about different shapes. The geometrical shapes are the figures that have
predefined properties. There are several shapes defined in geometry. For example - Triangle,
quadrilateral, polygon, circle, sphere, cone, cylinder and many more. The square is very common
geometrical shape which is used not only in mathematics, but in other practical fields too. In this article,
we are going to learn about the squares and their properties in detail.
A quadrilateral is a two-dimensional geometrical shape which is bounded by four line segments called
sides. A square is a type of quadrilateral. It is one of the special shapes in geometry. A square is a closed
geometrical shape with four sides and all corners are right angle (900). This is one of the types of
quadrilateral. Because, the number of sides in the square has 4. A square is also type of a regular
polygon, which has four sides and all sides are equal. It has four vertices and four sides. It has all the
vertex angles to be right angles. The square can be divided into two congruent isosceles triangles. With
the help of Pythagorean Theorem, we can find the length of diagonal. Each square has two diagonals.
The area of a square is Side * Side. The shape of a square is illustrated below -
Property 1:
A square is a polygon because all 4 sides of the square are equal in measure. Here, all the four side
length is x.
Property 2:
A square has 4 angles. All angles are exactly same in measure. They exactly measure 90 degrees.
Property 3:
Opposite sides of the square are parallel. They are not intersecting at any point.
Property 4:
The diagonals of the square exactly bisect at right angles. That is, they form the angle 90 degree.
Property 5:
The lengths of the diagonals are equal in measure. And, with the help of Pythagorean Theorem, we can
find the length of Diagonal. i.e
Property 6:
The perimeter of the square is equal to the sum of all sides of square.
Property 7:
The area of the square is equal to the squared value of side of the square.
Solved Examples
Question 1:
= (5m)2
= 25 m2
Question 2:
Solution:
= 4 * 6 ft
= 24 ft
Question 3:
So, AB = BC = CD = DA = 10 m
BD = 200−−−√200
BD = 102–√2 m.
