Intramuros is said to be the oldest district and the historic core in Manila as it was made in 1571
lead by Miguel Lopez de Legaspi, the very first Governor General in the Philippines. Meaning to
say, this city has been there more than a hundred of years ago. Intramuros is also called
“Walled City” which is synonymous to Manila during the Sapanish Period. The city was also
made to be the political and military base of the Spaniards in the country especially when
Legaspi official made Manila as the Capital of the country. Because of that, the city also
became the center of religion, education and economy which quickly leads for the standard
way of life in Intramuros to become the standard way of life throughout the Philippines.
However, the city is not originally made with walls. The city was said to be always in constant
danger mainly because it is located along the manila Bay and South of Pasig river which gives a
direct acces to chinese pirates who wanted to invade the city. This man-made calamities and
attack from invaders had prompt the Spaniards to build a protective wall that will hinder the
attacks outside the city.
