QUESTION 1: STEEL DOORFRAMES


1.1 Define the following terms used in steel door frame terminology

1.1.1 Lock jamb (1)


 vertical upright on which the door lock catch plat is mounted

1.1.2 Hinge jamb (1)


 the vertical upright on which the hinges are mounted
1.1.3 Fixing lug (1)
 This is a flat metal strip fixed to the frame to hold the frame
firmly to the wall. Can be welded or loose, the latter is tee
shaped and hooked in the frame
1.1.4 Catch Plate (1)
 this is a plate fitted to the lock jamb to receive the lever of the
lock
1.1.5 Hinges (1)
 The part that allows the door to swing open. One pair is fixed
on the hinge jamb
1.1.6 Rubber stops (1)
 small rubber couching mounted on the jambs to absorb the
shock when closing or slamming the door
1.2  Place the window frame in the correct opening in line with brickwork, (4)
with the bottom propped to allow for d.p.c. and window sill.
 Ensure that the frame is upright, square, level and plumb using a
spirit level, and check sides for any possible twist
 Strut the window frame temporarily at the top corners and centre to
eliminate any possible deflection, using braced scaffolding or other
suitable means
 Secure the frame to the wall by means of anchors ( lugs or wire)
