Action Tips

Presenting assignments
in a motivating way
How would you spontaneously present the assignment and objectives that you want to entrust to your
team member?

Information: Does this presentation give the employee all the necessary information for successfully
completing the work and understanding the context and challenges involved (link with company strategy,
how it fits in with other team assignments, etc.)?
Difficulties: Do the assignment and objectives have the appropriate level of difficulty for the skills and
profile of the employee? Is there a risk that the employee will feel undervalued or overwhelmed by the size
of the task?
References: Is this presentation expressed in a language that is meaningful for the employee in question,
using vocabulary and images that correspond to what motivates the employee (emphasis on challenge for
an employee who is competitive, on innovation for one with ideas, etc.)?
Motivation by activity: Does this presentation highlight the consistency between the nature of the work
to be done and the employee’s skills and aspirations?
Motivation by results: Does this presentation highlight the benefits of this assignment for the employee,
once it has been successfully completed?

If necessary, rephrase your previous statement in order to present this assignment and these objectives
to your employee more effectively:
