Sultan Palace is a traditional palace of Yogyakarta’s King and become the most
popular Yogyakarta Places of Interest. It is situated in the center of Yogyakarta City as well as easy
to access from any directions. This Sultan’s palace is also well known as Kraton Kasultanan
Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat is the center of Javanese culture living museum especially for
Yogykarta region, (Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta). Moreover, the king and his family are also living
in this palace. The palace is also a main direction of cultural development of Java as well as the

This palace is opened daily with the following schedule:

 Sunday to Saturday : 08.00 am until 14.00 pm (except Friday)


 Friday : 08.00 am – 12.00 pm
Sultan Palace or also well known
as Yogyakarta Palace was built by Pangeran Mangkubumi (Prince Mangkubumi ) in 1755, several
months after the signing of the Perjanjian Giyanti (the Agreement Giyanti). The Banyan forest
(Hutan Beringin) was chosen as the place to build the palace because the land was strategically
located between two rivers that were considered good and protected from possible flooding.
Despite, the age of palace reach hundreds of years old and has damaged by the massive
earthquake in 1867, Yogyakarta Palace buildings still stand firmly. This palace is also as a silent
historical witness against the process of colonialism and Indonesian Independence. This is already
evident that the palace as the center of government for Yogyakarta region since ever.

Firstly, Sultan Palace is located on Jl. Rotowijayan 1, Yogyakarta 55133. Meanwhile, there are
many things to see at this palace, ranging from the activity of servants in the palace who are doing
the job or to see properties collections. Most of the collections are kept in glass boxes that are
spread various rooms ranging from ceramics and glassware, weapons, photographs, miniatures as
well as replicas. It is also collecting several of batiks and its diorama of the making process.
