Heading:

Grade: 2nd
Lesson Name:Heat & Energy Experiment
TEKS: 6(A). investigate the effects on objects by increasing or decreasing
amounts of light, heat, and sound energy such as how the color of an
object appears different in dimmer light or how heat can melt m&m’s
Approx. Time: 35ish minutes

Materials Needed:
Paper Plates, m&m’s, warm water

Anticipatory Set: (Hook or Focus)

● I told them in how we were going to experiment with m&m’s

Objective:
A Students will be able to
B experiment on how applying heat energy can affect chocolate such as m&ms
C by observing the m&m’s
D and have completed their heat energy worksheet

Relevancy: We are learning to learn in how applying heat energy such as

warm water can cause a change such as in chocolate
Instructional Practice: I explained in how the mini round table person would
be the one putting the m&m’s on the plate
Modeled: I grabbed a plate and with my finger I showed them where and
how would they position the m&m’s
Guided Practice: The mini round table person would put the m&m’s by
themselves
Independent Practice: The students got to m&m’s and made a circle with
them on a paper plate
Assessment (observable and gradable): I came around the tables and see
what they said about heat energy and while they did their worksheets
Closure: Summarize with questions, or show and tell, or short statement (2-
3 minutes): I walked around and asked them if what they have said what
would happen was right or not.
Sponge: Colored their drawing after they were done with their worksheets
