README
This readme text contains information pertaining to the supply and use of ENCs in
ADMIRALTY services. It should be reviewed for changes each time you update your
ECDIS.
Latest Changes:
---------------------
This README.TXT file contains the latest information available on the use of ENCs
in ADMIRALTY services. This information may be navigationally significant and
should be reviewed for changes when you update your ECDIS.
---------------------
Some ENCs on the AVCS DVD are supplied as reissue files in place of base files with
separate update files. This reduces the time taken to load these ENCs as all
updates are pre-compiled into the ENC file.
Users will experience no differences to their normal ENC maintenance processes, but
some ECDIS that allow users to view the ENC update history may not include the
reissued ENCs in their report.
Updates on AVCS CDs and from download services (for example, e-Navigator Planning
Station) are not affected by this change.
---------------------
Mariners should be aware that the China Navy Hydrographic Office (CNHO) announces
navigational information within Section 1 of their Weekly Notices to Mariners
publication. This information is not intended to correct CNHO products but may be
significant to navigation. CNHO (C1) ENCs are not updated for this information,
which may include changes to routeing measures and port developments.
---------------------
The boundaries between Quality of Data (M_QUAL) areas with different CATZOC values
for some ENCs have been taken from the Source Diagram (SD) on the equivalent paper
chart and they should therefore be considered to be approximate.
For these M_QUAL areas, the CATZOC values are based on the simplified summary
provided in the SDD and therefore represent the lowest categorisation assigned to
any survey in each defined group of surveys.
The simplification means that it has not been possible to identify minor gaps
within survey coverage and mariners should be aware that such gaps (where lower
quality survey data has been used in the compilation of the chart) may exist.
---------------------
Some data providers issue ENCs which contain overlapping data coverage, both
internally and with adjoining nations coverage. This may make them difficult to
use in certain ECDIS systems which default to displaying both overlapping cells.
Caution should therefore be exercised when using such overlapping data. Mariners
should be aware that there will be a possibility that items of significance may be
present only in one data set within an area of overlap. They should therefore take
care to examine both data sets when planning a voyage through such an area.
---------------------
WITHDRAWN ENCs
A number of ENCs have been withdrawn from ADMIRALTY services without the issue of a
cancellation update because of concerns about their content or overlap with other
data. The withdrawal of ENCs is communicated in this README.TXT file and in
Section VIII of the ADMIRALTY Notices to Mariners Bulletin.
If withdrawn ENCs are installed in your ECDIS, you are advised to use them with
caution and refer to the appropriate paper chart coverage as they may be out of
date.
---------------------
The End User Licence Agreement (EULA) governing the use of AVCS data permits its
installation on a maximum of 5 workstations on any licensed vessel. It further
recognises that some parts of the data may be installed on more or fewer
workstations. ENCs with the following producer codes may be installed on the
maximum number of workstations indicated:
Up to 3 workstations
C2, MS, SG, TH
---------------------
The latest update status of every ENC in AVCS is listed in the file ENC Update
List.csv located in the INFO folder on this disc. The file lists the edition
number and update numbers and dates for each ENC, correct in the week of
publication. The most recent 6 weeks of status files can be found in the Maritime
Safety Information section of the UKHO website at www.ukho.gov.uk/msi.
