Directions: When solving the problems be sure to divide the foods into portions that will reflect the
multiplication of fractions in the given context. Below are two examples that demonstrate a student
demonstrating the multiplication of fractions through the parting of food.

1. Kyros ordered a Tricolor drink as well as Bobba tea. Kyros drank 1/3 of his tricolor drink and then
drinks ¼ of his bobba tea before going to the bathroom. How much of his drinks did Kyros drink?
Assume that the two drinks are equivalent in volume and that two drinks constitute a whole.
Show your reasoning on the drinks given below.

2. Basil has 4 pieces of Fufu. Basil eats 1/3 of his total amount of fufu and gives the rest to his
friends. How much Fufu do his friends eat if the four pieces of Fufu make a whole? Show your
reasoning of the four pieces of Fufu given below.

3. Jorge has a carrot cake and a pumpkin pie. Jorge ate 1/3 of the food he had, and his friend
Carlos are ½ of his remaining food. How much food remains? Assume that the carrot cake and
pumpkin pie have the same volume of material and that the two foods are considered one
whole. Show your reasoning on the foods given below.
