Our Goals
• Raise awareness of the need to support women and STEAM
entrepreneurship
• Inspire more girls to consider S.T.E.A.M. careers
• Track results of the STEAM participants and continually publish their
stories of impact
• Support parents who experience challenges in managing goals of
highly motivated daughters
• Provide curriculum and STEAM experiences to diverse audiences
including rural and low- income families
• Expand our reach/ impact on a regional, national and global stage
Astra S.T.E.A.M. Summit - History
• Formed in 2014; educate, mentor and inspire young girls [12 – 17] to
explore entrepreneurial opportunities in S.T.E.A.M. industries
• Framework: 5 annual Summits hosted in CA & NW.
• Competitive application
• Total of 96 girls and their parent[s] participated
• Challenge: collaborate in teams of 5 to create a unique business
• Support: each team had a mentor
• Requirements: business plan, marketing plan, application,
• Compete: pitch their plan to judges for part of $40K cash awards
The GSI Model
• Portal – Rich, continuously updated online resource of information and aggregated content from diverse organizations and contributors. A
single source for research, competitions, educational resources, mentorship programs and more.

• Website Resources - Catalogue of books, DVDs, Podcasts, Specialized STEAM-Entrepreneurial Curriculum offered both online and in
person, events, competitions, and relevant resources to education, inspire and create opportunities for girls across the country.

• Podcasts - Broad range of subject matter experts offer thoughts on trends in S.T.E.A.M. for both girls and their parents

• Newsletters-Interesting success stories told by industry leaders, women entrepreneurs, and STEAMers who have graduated from the
program and taken their newly developed skills to create a positive impact for others.

• Meetups - Planned gatherings- both large and small which bring together adult and student mentors to share advice on advancing
through the STEAM web of opportunities.

• Summit - Two- day workshop where girls develop a business and marketing plan and a digital application for a new business idea and
pitch to a judges panel for cash prizes.

• Workshops - Mentoring from experienced entrepreneurial women on starting and running a steam-related business.

• Parent track – ongoing programming to support parents of girls pursuing STEAM opportunities

GSI S.T.E.A.M. in a Box©- Available Winter 2019 - The S.T.E.A.M. in a Box© is a licensed GSI program for girls. It includes guidance for
local delivery of podcasts, workshops, resources and curriculum for girls, plus resources to guide the parents of their STEAMer girls as
they pursue STEAM opportunities.

GSI S.T.E.A.M. Summit in a Box©- Available Fall 2018 – This step-by-step guide has everything you need to locally execute our two-
day S.T.E.A.M. Challenge. Designed for girls 12-17 includes the framework for guiding girls as they develops a business idea,
marketing plan, and digital application - then pitch them to a panel of experts for cash awards. Includes mentoring, training and
a separate parent track.

GSI S.T.E.A.M. 2 Summits -Summer & Fall 2019


GSI S.T.E.A.M. Summit: Two regionally hosted events [Seattle & LA] targeting girls, ages 12-17. Video submissions are judged to
select contestants for a 2-day Business Challenge and a chance to win cash prizes. Pre-event training, workshop, coach/mentor,
and team collaboration. Each team will have 2 days to develop a business idea, marketing plan, a digital application and then
pitch it to a panel of judges for cash awards. Presentations are streamed to support peoples choice awards. Includes a separate
Parent Track for the parents of the participating girls. Opportunities for sponsors, mentors, or judges.

GSI Reunion- Summer 2020 – S.T.E.A.M. alumnae, their parents, our sponsors and partners are invited to join S.T.E.A.M.
entrepreneurs, industry leaders and futurists in the Vortex Immersion Dome at Central Studios, LA for this immersive looks at the
impact of technology – today and in the future. We’ll hear amazing success stories from our S.T.E.A.M. alumnae in their roles as
Global Citizens making a difference as educators and business owners.
