How To Make a Backup Copy of a CIMPLICITY Project

Description
Description
In many cases it is required to make a copy of a CIMPLICITY project so that it can be moved between nodes, or for backup purposes. This article
outlines how to properly back up a project.

NOTE:This article does not include backing up of historical data as would be contained in an SQL or Historian database. Nor does this document
cover the backing up of a Tracker system.

Resolution
Stop the Project

1. Open the project in the CIMPLICITY Workbench

2. Click on the “Stop” button.
3. Wait until the project is completely stopped and the “Play” button is no longer grayed out.
4. Close the CIMPLICITY Workbench.

Stop WebView (only required if used)

1. Open CIMPLICITY Options

2. Go to the WebView/ThinView tab
3. Click on the “Stop” button if the button is currently enabled. If the button is not currently enabled, WebView is not currently running and this section
can be skipped.
4. Wait until the start button is enabled again. WebView should be stopped at this point.

Back Up Project

1. Open the project in the CIMPLICITY Workbench again

2. Click to “Project” along the top menu bar
3. Click on “Explore” from the drop down. This should open a Windows Explorer session.
4. Close the Workbench, but leave the Windows Explorer session open
5. In the Windows Explorer session click on “Up” button to move up one level in the directory structure.
6. The folder that contains the project can now be safely copied to another location.

NOTE:

If using the Series 90 Triplex driver it is be suggested to also delete the gef_cfg.ini file that is located in the Windows installation folder. When the
project is restored this file can restored as well (as it contains the device names to TCP/IP address mappings.

Update:

CIMPLICITY HMI 8.0 and higher added a new addition/location for the gef_cfg.ini. This additional location ( \All Users\GE Fanuc\Proficy
CIMPLICITY\DATA\gef_cfg.ini) was implemented due the new file permissions in Windows Vista/Windows 7/Server 2008. If the gef_cfg.ini needs to
be updated manually all three files need to be considered.

1. C:\Windows or C:\Winnt
2. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\GE Fanuc\Proficy CIMPLICITY\DATA
3. [Project Directory]\data
