The live storage in the intake pond will be used for daily peaking operation.

The dam will be

constructed to full height in Stage 1. The available live storage will be abundant for any daily
peaking situation for the installed capacity in Stage 1.
Assessment of required live storage volume for daily peaking after Stage 2 is made below:
Basic parameters:
Off-peak turbine flow (minimum): 3 m3/s
Turbine flow during peaking: 66 m3/s
Peaking period per day. Xh
Long term reduction of live storage capacity 30%

Comment:
By environmental reasons for the river downstream the power plant will not be shut
completely under normal operation. 3 m3/s is regarded as minimum actual water flow with
one turbine in operation. Most of the time the plant will operate in a less extreme peaking
mode, which will require less live storage volume than for the above mode.
Maximum requirement for peaking volume occurs when the peaking is done in one period
per day and the daily total volume through the turbines is equal to:
Vd = X× 66 × 3600 + (24 – X) 3 × 3600
Corresponding average turbine flow : Qa = Vd / 24 / 3600
Required peaking volume: Vp = (Qa – 3) (24 – X) 3600
A quite probable mode of peaking operation is 2 peaking periods a day, one in the morning
and one in the evening. If each period is X/2 hours and peaking starts 08:00h in the morning
and 18:00h in the evening, the required peaking volume would be:
Vd = (Qa – 3)(14 – X/2) 3600

The estimated long term live storage volume is sufficient for a daily peaking mode operation
as defined with up to 5 hours continuous run at full capacity. Such operation will require
average river inflow of at least 18 m3/s.
In the long term the estimated live storage is sufficient for a daily peaking mode with up to 5
hours full capacity operation in the morning and 5 hours full capacity operation in the
evening starting 08:00h in the morning and 18:00h in the evening, respectively. Such
operation will require average river inflow of at least 31 m3/s.
