Recommendations for Approval -
July 22, 2010

The Business Operations Board Members have reviewed the following items as well as supporting
documentation. All documentation is available to all School Board Members upon request. The Business
Operations Board Members recommend the following for approval:
1. Board Orders
Recommended Action: To accept “B” Warrants issued for the month of June 2010, totaling
$1,981,064.72 on the General Fund, Adult Education Fund, Child
Development Fund, Deferred Maintenance Fund, Building Fund,
Capital Facilities -RAD Fund, Special Reserves Fund, Self Insurance
Fund and Payroll Clearance Fund; “A” Warrants issued during the
month of June 2010 totaling $3,868,618.08.

2. Obsolete Items
Recommended Action: To authorize the District to declare obsolete and dispose of the
following for Condit Elementary School:
Three (3) Apple Computers # 05967, 05563, 0-254
Three (3) Zenith Televisions # c-0181, 00323, 00355

To authorize the District to declare obsolete and dispose of the


following for Special Projects & Programs:
One (1) View Sonic Computer monitor # 40414
One (1) Tangent monitor # 40417

3. Gifts
Recommended Action: To accept with gratitude the following gifts and direct letters of
appreciation be sent:
Kiwanis Club of Claremont, $1,000 donation to be used for the
“needy in resistance training” at the Adult School
Chaparral PFA, $730 donation to be used for bus transportation for
the 2009-2010 school year at Chaparral Elementary School

4. Authorization to Enter into an Agreement


Recommended Action: To approve the agreement with Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth, a
law firm, to provide Bond Counsel services should the District plan
solicitation of voter approval for issuance of General Obligation
Bonds. Total compensation for providing Bond Council for all of
the pre-election and post-election services will range from 1/10 of
1% to 1% depending on the amount of bonds issued.

To approve the agreement with Piper Jaffray & Co., an investment


banking firm, to provide underwriting services in relation to the
potential issuance of General Obligation Bonds. Total compensation
for all of the pre-election and post-election services shall not exceed
1.10% of the total principal amount of each individual General
Obligation Bond issue.

To authorize the District to enter into an Agreement for Services


Contract between the Claremont Unified School District and Baldy
View Regional Occupational Program for the construction teacher
for the 2010/11 school year. The District shall pay the ROP $2,500
to cover the cost of the construction teacher.

Authorization to Enter To authorize the District to enter into an Agreement for Services
into an Agreement Contract between the Claremont Unified School District and Baldy
continued View Regional Occupational Program for the criminal justice
teacher for the 2010/11 school year. The District shall pay the ROP
$13,000 to cover the cost of the criminal justice teacher.

To authorize the District to enter into a contract between Arrow


Therapy; Canyon View School; Casa Colina; Center for Autism and
Related Disorders; Devereux– Glenholme; Devereux–Texas; LeRoy
Haynes School; Lovaas Institute for Early Intervention; Oxford
Consulting Services, Inc.; Pediatric Therapy Works; Provo Canyon
School; Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School; Susan Spitzer, Ph.D.,
UHS Keystone and the Claremont Unified School District for the
2010/2011 school year. These schools and agencies provide services
to meet needs for special education students identified by the IEP
team. In using them, a contract is provided through the East San
Gabriel Valley SELPA and signed by the school district and the
agency or school. The contract assures that the school or agency is
compliant with the California Education Code and has NPA and/or
NPS status in California.

To adopt Resolution # 01-2011 authorizing District staff to enter into


a one year agreement beginning July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011
with the State Department of Education for the State Preschool
Contract #CSPP-0178 and to authorize designated personnel to sign
contract documents for Fiscal Year 2010-11.

To adopt Resolution # 02-2011 authorizing District staff to enter into


a one year agreement beginning July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011
with the State Department of Education for Family Child Care
Homes Contract # CFCC-0010 and to authorize designated
personnel to sign contract documents for Fiscal Year 2010-11.

5. Approval of Service Agreement Change Order


Recommended Action: To approve an increase to the service agreement with TBWB Public
Finance Strategies, LLC for fees and costs related to polling
activities originally anticipated not to exceed $25,000 with actual
expenses totaling $34,732. The increase in cost was due to a change
in the structure of the polling process to a “split sample survey”
which significantly increased the number of voters polled.

6. Authorization to make routine budget revisions, adjustments and transfers


Recommended Action: To adopt Resolution #03-2011 authorizing District staff to make
routine budget revisions, adjustments, and transfers as necessary for
the payment of District obligations and to effect technical
adjustments of the board-adopted budget during the 2010-11 fiscal
year.

Recommendation: To recommend these transactions to the Board of Education for


approval.
