MILLENIUM RO SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS

A GE OSMONICS PORTABLE REVERSE OSMOSIS SYSTEM

The Millenium Portable Reverse Osmosis (RO) System provides efficient, economical reverse
osmosis purification for medical applications (hemodialysis) in acute and home settings. It is
registered as a medical device with the FDA. The Millenium’s monitoring, instrumentation and
product water quality meets or exceeds the standards recommended by the Association for the
Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).
The Millenium RO system is shipped fully assembled and performance tested. Two membrane
pressure vessels with their associated manifolding, tubing and valves, are neatly supported in a
fully enclosed cabinet, designed to provide easy access for servicing and monitoring the
equipment’s performance.
The Millenium RO is capable of removing all classes of water contaminants except dissolved
gases. Dissolved ionic contaminants are removed at a rate of 97 - 99 %. Dissolved organics
larger than 300 Daltons, and suspended matter including organics, inorganics, and
microorganisms are rejected equally or greater.
Prior to shipment, the Millenium RO system is performance tested to ensure that the system
performs as specified. Following the successful completion of the performance test, the system
is treated with a storage solution to protect the membranes from bacterial contamination and
chemical deterioration prior to installation.

SPECIFICATIONS:

1. Stainless Steel Rotary Vane Pump

A stainless steel rotary vane pump is provided to boost feed water pressure to the level
required to deliver the specified volume of RO permeate. All wetted parts are
constructed of non-contaminating materials. The pump is driven by a 1/3 HP, single
phase, ODP motor. The pump is capable of delivering at least 100 GPH at 200 PSI.
2. Thin Film Membranes, 250 GPD
Two thin film membranes are provided to deliver approximately 250 GPD (921 LPD) of
RO permeate each at 200 PSI applied pressure, 25°C (77°F) and 10% recovery. The
percent of recovery will vary depending on the product consumption. Each membrane is
2.4” in diameter and 21” long and utilizes a tape wrapped cover and brine seal.
Productivity may vary depending on other feed water conditions.
3. Thin Film Membranes, 375 GPD
Two thin film membranes are provided to deliver approximately 375 GPD (1420 LPD) of
RO permeate each at 200 PSI applied pressure, 25°C (77°F) and 10% recovery. The
percent of recovery will vary depending on the product consumption. Each membrane is
2.4” in diameter and 21” long and utilizes a tape wrapped cover and brine seal.
Productivity may vary depending on other feed water conditions.
4. Stainless Steel Pressure Vessels
Stainless steel pressure vessels are provided to house the thin film membranes. The
vessels have PVC end caps and are secured with clamps. The vessels are corrosion
resistant and have a maximum working pressure rating of 250 PSI.
5. Inlet Solenoid Valve
A brass solenoid valve is provided to shut off the feed water. The valve is actuated when
the inlet water valve switch is placed in the open position. Opening this valve before
starting the pump pressurizes the system to prevent pump cavitation and reduce stress
throughout the system.
6. Pressure Monitoring Gauges
Panel mounted pressure gauges are provided to measure the pump (membrane
operational waste) and product water pressures.
7. Waste Flow Control
A length of 1/8” tubing regulates the waste stream to drain. This flow restrictor never
needs adjustment, provides consistent waste flow and is resistant to plugging.
8. Water Quality Monitoring
Two monitoring functions are provided. Percent rejection is indicated by a 5 (five) LED
array mounted on the RO controller front panel. Product water quality is monitored with
a digital display on the front panel and is capable of displaying TDS values from 0.1 to
99.9 mg/l. The monitor also has a mutable alarm with user adjustable set points (2, 5,
10, 25, and 50 mg/l). The TDS monitor is temperature compensated and has an
accuracy of ± 2% over the full range.
9. 1% Peracetic Acid Compatible Components
All components in the fluid path are made from stainless steel or inert plastic enabling
approved solutions of 1% peracetic acid to be used for disinfection.

10. Semi-Automatic Disinfection

A semi-automatic disinfection system is provided with the RO. The disinfection system
is operated with a quick disconnect valve and an illuminated switch. The disinfection
switch energizes the pump, allowing disinfectant to be introduced into the RO system.
11. Pressure Adjust Regulator
A pressure regulator inside the cabinet is provided to adjust the pump and product
pressure to accommodate varying water supply pressures.
12. Fan Cooled
A low noise high volume fan exhausts air from the enclosed cabinet allowing
components to operate in a cooler environment.
13. Pressure Switch
A pressure switch on the inlet of the water is provided to reduce pump damage in case
of sudden pressure loss. The switch includes a 5 (five) second delay built in to prevent
short cycling of the system. An LED is mounted to the face panel to provide a visual
indicator as to why the RO has stopped operating. Once adequate pressure has
returned, the LED will slowly fade out.
14. GFCI inline
A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) is provided on 60Hz units to prevent electrical
shock in case of grounding failure. The GFCI includes a LED to show operational
status.
15. Color Coded Process Connections
The quick disconnect (QD) fittings on the Millenium have been color coded for quick
visual connections.
16. Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Certified to US and Canadian Standards
The Millenium RO has been listed by the Canadian Standards Association as certified.
The Millenium RO has been tested and demonstrated compliance with the following
standards:
CAN/CSA C22.2 No 601.1-M90 (Safety of Medical Electrical Equipment
Part I, General Requirements for Safety)

UL Std No 2601-1 2nd Edition (Safety of Medical Electrical Equipment,

Part I: General Requirements for Safety)

OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT:

1. Pre-treatment Cart
The pre-treatment cart holds the Millenium RO unit. Two different types of carts are
available:
The Millenium RO M1 Cart is able to hold the Millenium RO unit and accommodate pre-
filters and up to three pre-treatment tanks.
The Docking Station Cart is uniquely designed to accommodate specific dialysis
equipment, the Millenium RO, pre-filters and up to three pre-treatment tanks.
2. Pre-Treatment
Cartridge type filter housings can be attached to any type pre-treatment cart. Filter
housings can accommodate sediment or carbon filters.

Carbon filter tanks protect the RO membranes from being damaged by chlorine /
chloramines and removes lower molecular weight dissolved organics from RO feed
water. These are available in semi-automatic control valve and exchange head styles.

Water softener tanks remove calcium, magnesium and other scale producing
contaminants from the feed water. Their removal prevents the buildup of scale on the
membrane surface. The control valve is normally governed by a semi-automatic time
clock.
