Guardsman Paul McGee
The tragic death of Paul McGee on
Sunday 25th October 2009 shocked
our community to the core and, four
months on, it is still hard to compre-
hend the profound distress and im-
mense loss suffered by Paul McGee’s
family.

As many readers will recall, in July


2008, Guardsman Paul McGee was
awarded the Queen’s Commendation
for Bravery for his efforts to save the
life of a colleague during operations in
Iraq; Paul’s exceptional bravery was
the subject of an article in August
2008 Chatterbox.

Following Paul’s untimely death at the


age of 28, just over a year later, trib-
utes of a different kind appeared in
November 2009 Chatterbox from the
Reverend Christine Murdoch and
from Councillor David Arthur. In ad-
dition, our very talented local poet,
Betty McKellar, paid a very moving
tribute to Paul McGee “and the Scots
Guards who brought out the fine man
in him” in her heartfelt poem, entitled
“We’ll Remember” in December 2009
