The House that wisdom built

We all have a desire to be wise. We like to understand how things work, to be able to answer questions, to make decisions,
and to share what we know. We seek and search out wisdom and knowledge of the things of this world, just as Solomon
did.

Knowledge is knowing a fact, Wisdom is knowing what to do with that fact.

Knowledge knows that cigarettes are bad because they can cause you cancer, Wisdom makes you put down that cigarette
and stop smoking.

Knowing that fact is one thing but knowing what to do with that fact is another thing.

You can buy a good education but only wisdom is the gift from God.

A wise man says nothing when he’s in an argument with his wife. A wise man is one who puts he’s foot down only to
change position.

Solomon said in Proverbs 3 that wisdom is the path that leads to wealth. Wisdom leads to happiness, it leads to life.
Wisdom is more precious than silver or gold, or precious rubies, Wisdom is the compass by which man steers across the sea
of life.

Here are Ten pearls from the proverbs each of which can produce a sermon. These are the wisdom of the knowledge of
God in bullet points:

1. The problem that infuriates you the most is the problem that God will assign for you to solve.
2. What you are willing to walk away from determines what God will bring you to.
3. When you want something you’ve never had you must do something you’ve never done before. (Insanity is doing
the same thing over and over again expecting a different result)
4. Give another something he cannot find anywhere else and he will keep returning to you.
5. Winner are willing to do something they hate, to create something they love.
6. God never consults your past to determine your future
7. Power is the ability to walk away from something you desire, to protect something you love
8. Men decide their habits and habits decide your future
9. You cannot correct what you’re not willing to confront
10. Losers focus on what they’re going through, winners focus on what they’re going to.

Proverbs 3: 1-3,

1. My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
2. For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
3. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways
acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Proverbs 3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

Proverbs 3:13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

Proverbs 3:22 So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

Proverbs 3:26 For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

Proverbs 9:1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
Solomon said the house that wisdom built has seven pillars. 7 in scripture represents perfection. Many houses fail and they
fall because they’re poorly built. Jesus is a master carpenter. He is a master home builder. In Mathew 7: 24-27 he gave a
home building seminar. Jesus said four things in this seminar:

1. We’re all building a house called life

2. You’re either building it wisely or foolishly, no in-between
3. You must live in the house that you build, there’s no escape
4. Your house called life will be severely tested by storms

It’s not if the storms will come, it’s when the storm comes. Because both houses were finished but you can never test the
quality of a house until it endure the storm. You can never determine the quality of your commitment to Christ until you
endure the storm.

You are building a house called life and you will be forced to live in it whether you like it or not.

7 pillars of wisdom

1. 1st pillar: The fear of the Lord [Proverbs 1:7 - The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise
wisdom and instruction]

Do we fear the Lord?

No we do not.

We use God’s name in vain, we defy His word, On Sundays most of us don’t come to church and when we do come
it’s either after the sermon or during the benediction. We spend more time pinging in church than listening to the
word of God, some of us worship other gods and still come to church. There is no fear of God. Abortion is now a
norm. There are more bars and hotels and clubs in festac now than there are churches.

2. Mercy: Solomon said when you build your house be sure to add mercy.
Lamentations 3:22
"It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail."

2 Samuel 24:14
"David said to Gad, “I am in distress. Let us fall now into Yahweh’s hand; for his mercies are great. Let me not fall
into man’s hand.”"
Psalms 23:6
"Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in Yahweh’s house
forever."
Goodness gives me what I don’t deserve, mercy spears me from what I do deserve. If the devil can take away mercy
from you, from your heart and from your home he has won the battel and has successfully killed Christianity.
 Mercy projects a forgiving spirit
 Mercy is to have a heart of compassion
 Mercy is to have the mind of Christ towards the suffering and the sinful. Are you merciful or are you
judgmental and critical
 Mercy will be made manifest in your actions towards men. It cannot be hidden
 The merciful search for the best way to restore other people
 The merciful seeks for a way to call back the fallen
 The merciful are slow to judge and condemn. Religious people are very quick to condemn but the merciful
are slow.
 They put themselves in the shoes of the other person and see things from a different perspective.

Are you merciful of are you full of bitterness, biting and condemning anyone you cannot control.
 The bible say Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy. Heaven has a mercy bank and if you have no mercy in
that mercy account when you need mercy you will not get any.

3. Trust: Solomon says trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways
aknowledge Him and He shall direct your path. The human race is held together by trust.
 You go to your doctor and trust
 You get on an airplane and trust in the plane and pilot
 You trust in the commercial bus you get into everyday, you trust that the driver will take you to your
desired destination safely.
 You trust that the chair or pews that your sitting on will support you weight.
 Friendships and marriages are held together by trust
 Relationship with Christ is held together by trust

God has asked for one thing from man. He has not asked that you explain Him because you cannot, He has not asked for
you to describe Him because you cannot, He only asks you to trust in Him.

We sing the song trust and obey for there’s no other way to be happy… but do you really trust Him. Or do you trust in men,
do you trust in Him or do you trust in the money you have in your account,

 In a prescription given to you by your doctor.

 Your ability to kill and manipulate people with your words
 Your ability to tell lies

Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and
idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Doubt is the opposite of trust. When you doubt God it means that you don’t trust Him. We need to remove every shred of
doubt in God and trust in Him regardless of what we’re going through in life.

PS 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
PS 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

4. Money management:

PR 3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase:
PR 3:10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
If you’re going to take a money management course take it for someone who has made some money.
Tithing is important because the bible teaches it. Tithing is from the same book and from the same God. Tithing
means to bring in 10% of your income and not half of it. 10% of your income and not divine tipping, not what you
feel like. Why should we pay our tithes, because God commands it.
You don’t pay your tax because you feel like it, you pay it because it’s necessary for you to pay. You just do it.
For me I tithing is just one way of being grateful to God. It’s a way of saying thank you to the God who has
blessed me and prospered the works of my hands. It’s a way of preventing the devourer from eating up my
resources. Why should I tithe? Because God controls your finances, He controls your health, your entire life and
it’s not smart to tick Him off.

Reasons why you should tithe:

 10. Tithe because you do not want to be a thief.God says people rob Him when they withhold tithes and
offerings. (Malachi 3:8-9)
9. Tithe to safeguard your treasure. You are investing where it is totally secure. “Don’t store up treasures
on earth! Moths and rust can destroy them, and thieves can break in and steal them.” (Matthew 6:19)
8. Tithe because you want to reap from what you sow. “A few seeds make a small harvest, but a lot of
seeds make a big harvest.” (2 Corinthians 9:6)
7. Tithe because you desire God’s blessings. God blesses the nine-tenths of your salary. He promises to
pour out a blessing there would not be room enough to receive. This is not always in financial returns, but in
ways that only you realize.
6. Tithe because lost souls need the gospel. People will be reached and saved as God’s people bring the
tithe into the storehouse (the church).
5. Tithe because your church needs it. The church does great work and needs your support. “Bring the
entire ten percent into the storehouse, so there will be food in my house.” (Malachi 3:8)
4. Tithe because tithing brings you joy. The knowledge of doing God’s will brings peace of mind and joy
to your heart. “God loves a cheerful giver” (II Corinthians 9:7)
3. Tithe because it is God’s plan of finance for His kingdom.“Ten percent of everything you harvest is
holy and belongs to me, whether it grows in your fields or on your fruit trees.” (Leviticus 27:30) It not only is
holy, it belongs wholly to Him.
2. Tithe because of what God has done for you.He gave His only Son, He saved your soul and He blesses
you with possessions. He said, “Prove me” (Malachi 3:10) and He has proved faithful.
1. Tithe because you love God. You recognize Him as the Eternal One who created the universe and is the
only One who knows what is best for you.

5. Happiness: Proverbs 3:13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
6. Confidence: Solomon said in the text that we read "for the Lord will be your confidence " Psychologist has
proven that many people suffer from lack of confidence. It's astonishing to know that there are so many
people who don't like themselves. If you know who you are then you know who you are not. People who
don't know who there are do what they see Hollywood stars do on TV. They go around dressing like the
movie stars but when you get closer to them you'd find out that it's all fake. There are some churches where
the members are made to look like the pastor, dress like him and even talk and preach like him.

People who lack confidence are constantly complaining about everything. People who complain about
everything use it as a defence mechanism to keep other people from looking closely at them. As long as
they're complaining about you, or what you do or about somebody else they will keep you looking at
somebody else because they are terrified that you would stop and look at them and when you look at them
you'll find out that they leave in a shell and they are terrified of who they are.
7. People who are confident always looking for good things to happen.

However, Solomon discovered that wisdom ‘under the sun’, apart from God, left him unfulfilled and discontented.

In 1 Kings 3, we learn that Solomon asked God for wisdom to rule His people. Instead of requesting material riches,
comfort, or pleasure, Solomon desired to advance God’s kingdom through wise leadership. Because God was so pleased
with Solomon’s request, He granted it and gave him much more. Solomon began his royal reign as the wisest man on Earth
with great wealth and honor. At some point in his life, Solomon grew to love God’s blessings more than God Himself. His
life began to revolve around his wealth, pleasure, and adoration. He elevated his earthly wisdom above godly wisdom.
Solomon forgot that it is the wisdom of God that answers our every need and gives us true perspective on life’s deepest
questions.

James 3:17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of
mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

Earthly wisdom appeals to the senses and the emotions. In contrast, the wisdom that is from God reflects Him. While
earthly wisdom says always follow your heart, godly wisdom tells us in Jeremiah 17:9 that the heart is deceitful above all
things. While earthly wisdom says seeing is believing, godly wisdom tells us in John 20:29that blessed are those who have
not seen and yet have believed. While earthly wisdom says love your family and friends, godly wisdom tells us in Matthew
5:43-47 to also love your enemies and bless them. While earthly wisdom says there are many ways to God, godly wisdom
tells us in Acts 4:12 there is only one way to God, Jesus Christ.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be
given to you.

God desires to give His divine wisdom to His children. All other types of learning are valuable but limited unless built upon
the knowledge of the Lord Himself. To gain God’s wisdom, we must pray for it, while studying and living out God’s Word. So
many distractions in this world threaten to pull us away from God. We are constantly bombarded by viewpoints, images,
and ideals that contradict those in the Bible. It is easy to find our hearts straying from God toward ideas and belief systems
that sound impressive and appealing. Believers must remain diligent and steadfast in seeking God and keeping His wisdom
forefront in our minds. We may have to stand against the wisdom of the world, the advice of our well-meaning family and
friends, and battle our own self-seeking desires in order to be solely led by God.

God’s wisdom gives us focus and direction when we have to choose between what looks good, what feels good, and what
is good.
