4-bar mechanism
For a known four-bar mechanism, in a given configuration and for a known
angular velocity of the crank, ω2 , we want to determine ω3 and ω4 . In this
example we assume ω2 is CCW. For the position vector loop equation

Velocity polygon method
4-bar mechanism
For the position vector loop equation:
R2+R3 − R4 − R1 = 0 --- (1)
the velocity equation is
ω2 R2 + ω3 R3 − ω4 R4 = 0 --- (3)

Velocity polygon method:-
As illustrated in Eq.2, the velocity enclosure equation
Can be represented in the following vector diagram

4-bar mechanism
V3
To start, select a reference zero velocity point (OV) V2
Draw a perpendicular line to vector R2 from OV as V4
shown in the next figure. Note that vector V2 can be OV
drawn directly because its angle is determined by the
line drawn previously and its magnitude is ω2 R2
Note that the direction of V2 is determined by
rotating R2 in the same direction of ω2.

4-bar mechanism
From A draw a line perpendicular to R3 . V3 must
reside on this line.
