Once you have all the numbers for the letters in a name, you add them all together. If the name results in a double-digit, then you add the separate digits together. So for example, if the numbers of a
name come to a total of 24, the numerological value of the name is 6.
The final number is then associated with certain qualities and personality traits.
There are two exceptions to the double-digit rule. If the combined letters of a name result in an 11 or a 22, the digits are not added together. In numerology, these are known as "master numbers" and
they have intrinsic qualities of their own.
As an example, let's calculate the numerological value of the name NEHA SHARMA.
N=5
E=5
H=8
A=1
S=1
H=8
A=1
R=9
M=4
A=1
Under numerology, everyone has multiple numbers, which are all calculated in slightly different ways. Each number describes a certain part of your personality or your future.
This is calculated using all the letters of your first name and your surname, and as such it is also known as the 'name number'.
This may be the most important number of all. It describes your character, reveals your individual goals and how to achieve them, and also outlines any potential obstacles along the way.
This is calculated using the consonants in your first name. Not only does it show you what you're really like, it also gives you an idea of what other people think of you.
This is calculated using the vowels of your first name and surname, and is also known as the number of heart’s desire or soul’s yearning.
The soul number represents your inner strength and what guides it. It's particularly useful if you're using numerology to choose your baby’s name, because it defines the inner self.
Numerology expert Jean Simpson imagines the three numbers like a gift box. The personality number is the wrapping, the soul number is the gift within and the destiny number is the whole package.
As we know them today, letters represent sounds, whereas numbers represent values that we can use to make calculations. But before this, ancient cultures used letters for both sounds and
calculations. In Roman numerals for example, I is 1, V is 5 and X is 10.
Associating numbers with certain beliefs is also nothing new. In fact, there are many cases throughout history of people believing in the power of numbers!
The number 7 holds a special place in the Bible. And Kabbalah, a school of thought beloved of many celebrities, also speaks of the mystical interpretation of life through numbers.
Numerology has been used in Chinese culture for more than four thousand years to define which numbers are considered lucky. A number’s good fortune depends on its sound when said out loud. If
it sounds similar to a lucky word, then the number is also considered lucky!
The precursor to modern numerology was created by Pythagoras, a Greek philosopher and mathematician who lived over 1,500 years ago. You may remember learning about him in maths class at
school.
Pythagoras believed that everything could be explained in terms of numbers, and that the numbers associated with certain letters could be interpreted astrologically. He gave a numeric value to each
letter in cycles of 9, much like numerology today.
At the beginning of the 20th century, modern numerology was developed using a combination of these principles. Many writers, researchers and mystics have contributed to making numerology the
fascinating discipline it is today!
Use our numerology calculator (/t25017109/numerology-calculator) to discover the personality number, soul number and destiny number for any name.
