TITLE:
‘To Determine Metacentric Height Of A Ship Model Experimentally And Compare The Values With
Theoretical Results’
INTRODUCTION:
The metacentric height is a measurement of the initial static stability of a floating body. It is calculated
as the distance between the center of gravity of a ship and its metacenter.
OBJECTIVE:
To determine the metacentric height of a ship.
PROCEDURE:
RECORTED DATA:
DISSCUSSION:
Displacement is denoted in inches.
Angle of rotation is recorded in Degree.
Weight of ship is noted in Ibs.
Variable weight is denoted in Ibs.
Calculated GM in inches by multiplying product of variable weight and displacement divided by
product of weight of ship and angle of rotation.
CONCLUSION:
On right side metacentric height is 0.7667 inches which implies greater initial stability against
overturning.
On left side metacentric height is 0.7675 inches which implies greater initial stability against
overturning.
