Aim : to show the pollutant in cigarette smoke

Procedure:
1. The apparatus is set up as shown in figure 5.23
2. All the connection is ensured airtight.
3. The cigarette is lightened up and the vacuum pump is started.
4. My finger is placed on the tube labeled P from time to time.
5. What happened to the glass wool and bicarbonate indicator is
observed
6. A report is written in my report book.

Observation:
1. What happens to the glass wool at the end of the experiment?
The glass wool (remains clean, turn brownish) at the end of the
experiment.

2. What changes can you observe on the bicarbonate indicator?


The bicarbonate indicator (does not change, change from red to
yellow).

3. What happen to the temperature?


The temperature was increased from 29OC to 32OC

Conclusion:
1.What conclusion can you made from the experiments?
Cigarette smoke is one of the sources of air pollutant. It
produced carbon dioxide which is hazardous to our
health and lungs.
