CREDITS GOVERNING BODY - Credits municipal accomplishments to the
policy makers; does not feel a personal ego.
NEW OBJECTIVES - List new priorities (the City Manager will prepare draft
action plan for your review).
H –We have good code enforcement personnel. We need to fund that
department with more money for personnel. Nacogdoches is getting very
dirty. 1) Litter 2) Condemned properties 3) Unmowed properties 4)
occupied properties that are unkept 5) property owners and landlords
are not being held accountable for the actions of their tenants – “litter”
6) the entrance to “Nac” on both ends is unacceptable to me! 7) people
that have condemned properties are given too long to fix them. I would
like to see this list improved as soon as possible. I will do my part.
J –1) Bring customer service approach to city government – all
employees !! 2) Concentrate on departments that are weak (P&Z, Eng,
Code Enforcement & Inpsect 3) Push forward on annex – do not hold
back – business.
V – 1) Produce within 6 months in-depth evaluation of city’s spending
policies and recommend areas for savings. Present to city commission for
discussion and action. 2) Produce simplified annual budget and quarterly
reports for commission members. They can refer to the detailed
documents if questions arise. Quarterly reports should have mtd; ytd and
comparison budget.
3) Propose plan to encourage and increase retail growth in downtown
area 4) within financial limitations present viable plan to invest in trail
system and sidewalks. This should include specific location of
improvements.
S – Sidewalk on MLK from Shawnee to Main Street. Drainage problems on
Shawnee in front of Design Line Beauty Parlor and drainage on First
Street.
P – As city manager Jim Jeffers has made good sound decisions and
helped our community move forward. Because of his hard work and
dedication and accomplishments I believe it is time to look back at
some previous objectives from prior years and administrations and
focus on completion.
Quality of Life: I believe it is time to refocus some of the city’s
6
resources on hiking, biking trails, music venue and a new city pool.
Outdoor activities are a good thing for the family and economic
stability and growth. We have a good start and we need to finish
these projects.
Finish the trails: Stripling bike lanes for bike paths and safety.
City pool: New and improved
Developing trails on the new city owned land across from the
proposed Timber Springs.
Work on a music venue for promoters such as the racetrack, new
soccer field location on the loop.
Beautification: We need to finish moving the public works to the
loop. Concentrate on beautification efforts to enhance our entrance
corridor at the South Street bridge and Banita Creek Park.
Encourage businesses to plant trees along North Street – the
example is Kroger new renovations on North Street. Work closer
with the University and Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful and enhance
programs to further the mission of beautification. Use the newly
acquired land across from the proposed Timber Springs as a new
planting area for trail enhancement.
Communication: We need to make more efforts to communicate
with the public on issues that they are concerned with and projects
the city is working on – Town Hall meetings and PSAs.
I know we have and are making good strides with economic
development and infrastructure improvements. But I believe it is
time to revisit our physical and visual aspects of our community in
relationship with quality of life. It is time to promote and develop a
more healthy community.
