ELECTROMAGNETIC THEORY AND TRANSMISSION LINES (ECE)

ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS.
1) State Divergence Theorem.
2) Define Force (F) and Electric Field Intensity (E) at a point.
3) State Biot–Savart’s law.
4) Write Maxwell’s equations in free space for static fields.
5) State poyinting Theorem.
6) Draw a neat diagram of transmission Line and list the parameters of the transmission line.
7) WritePoisson’s and Laplace’s equations.
8) Write Curl of Vector A in rectangular co-ordinate system and cylindrical co-ordinate system.
9) Explain circular polarization of a wave.
10) Explain the concept of loading in transmission lines. List the types of loading.

2 a) Derive the expression for electric field Intensity(E) at a point due to Infinite Line Charge located
along z-axis from -∞ to +∞. [6M]
b) State Gauss Law in integral and differential form. [4M]
3 a) Derive the expression for magnetic force on a differential current element.
b) State Ampere’s circuital law.
4 a) Derive the boundary conditions for the tangential and normal components of Magnetic fields at
the boundary between two perfect dielectrics.

b) Explain Faraday’s law.


5 a) Explain reflection of Wave at normal Incidence in dielectric to dielectric medium. [6M]
b) An air-filled rectangular wave guide has dimensions a=2cm and b=1cm. Determine the range
of frequencies over which the guide will operate in single mode(TE 10). [4M]
6 a) Explain the importance of Short circuits (SC) and open circuits(OC) lines . [6M]
b) At 8 MHz the characteristic impedance of transmission line is (40-j2) Ω and the propagation
constant is (0.01+j0.18 ) per meter. Find the primary constants. [4M]
