PVC Water Stop Joint Detail for New Concrete Wall

Waterstop Installation Instructions:

Concrete joints, where two or three sections of the concrete meets, are the weakest points being
subjected to water penetration. Waterstop products are designed to form a moisture barrier to
deal with these issues.

Proper installation is as follows:

Preparation:
1. Before installation, uncoil waterstops (leave open to reduce shape-memory), this will allow
the waterstop to resume straight shape for easier handling.

2. Check the waterstop for any defects or cracks. Replace any defective areas.

Installation:
1. Place waterstops at appropriate position. Make sure that half of the waterstop width is
embedded in the concrete before pouring.

2. Maintain approximately 1.5 times of clear coverage between the waterstop and reinforced
steel making sure that there are no rock pockets or air voids.

3. Tie the waterstop to surrounding reinforcing steels by threading steel wire to metal eyelets,
punched holes or hot rings to waterstops to fix the waterstop firmly. Make sure there is no
displacement during fastening.

4. Pour and vibrate the concrete, especially near the joints under the waterstop (this will
enhance the concrete contact with the waterstops).

5. Clean debris and dirt from concrete surface after the first pour.

6. Repeat the above methods for any additional pours.

Waterstop is embedded directly into the concrete joint

to prevent water penetration.
