As an educator of color in the 21st century it is my responsibility to
create, sustain and advocate for technological access and equity. Within historically marginalized communities access to technology represents access to vital resources. Access to technology enables the flow of information, which is vital in building a community of well-informed citizens. Building agency within communities requires a well-informed citizenry, thus making technology indispensable. The bolstering of agency within marginalized communities is essential is supporting effective self-advocacy. Access to technology also means access to a globalized world and economy. It means access to a plethora of cultures, religions and perspectives. As an educator, I continue to fight for access to computers and internet connection for all students. As an educator, I continue to advocate for professional development around effective uses of technology in the classroom for teachers. As an educator, I keep abreast of the research surrounding technology. As and educator, I learn, plan and implement lessons around navigating the world wide web and establishing a presence within it. Our students ability to access the resources needed to live a life of their choice requires that they have 21st century access to technological resources.
