M.Phil. AND Ph.D. ADMISSION - 2010

Important instructions to all concerned

Ref: Gujarat University Advertisement of 11.08.2010 in newspapers for


admission to M.Phil. and Ph.D.

1. All persons interested to apply for admission to M.Phil. and Ph.D. of Gujarat
University may see Gujarat University website www.gujaratuniversity.org.in
for details regarding rules and regulations, etc., before buying the application
form.

2. All persons who are exempted from the entrance test are also required to buy
the application form by paying Rs.750/- and submit the same duly filled in.
They are also required to participate in the Group Discussion and Personal
Interview (GD & PI).

3. All persons who have registered for Ph.D. with the Gujarat University from
November 30, 2009 may go through the admission process by filling up the
form, writing the test and participating in GD & PI.

4. There will be no personal communications to the applicants from the


University. All applicants are required check the departmental/school notice
board or the Gujarat University website regarding the admission process.
5. All those are interested in applying for M.Phil and Ph. D. should fill form for
both M.Phil and Ph. D.
6. Candidates should bring their photo identity and fee receipt (of Rs. 750)
without fail at the time of entrance test and Group Discussion (GD) and
Personal Interview (PI) (in case you are called for). Kindly note that without
identity proof and the fee receipt candidate will not allowed to take the test/
GD-PI.

7. Admission schedule

Eligible candidates who are interested in registering for M.Phil. and Ph.D. in
various faculties of Gujarat University for the academic year 2010-11 may

8. Details of entrance test for M.Phil.

There will be one objective type paper of two hours. The details are as
follows:

• Each correct answer will carry one mark and each wrong answer will
carry minus 0.25 mark.

• There will be 50 marks for GDPI, the distribution of which will be as


under:

Maximum 10 marks for percentage in graduation


Maximum 10 marks for percentage in post-graduation
Maximum 10 marks for performance in group discussion
Maximum 20 marks for performance in personal interview

 
9. Details of entrance test for Ph.D.

There will be one objective type paper of 75 minutes and descriptive type
paper of one hour. The style and content will be similar to that of NET and SET.

• In the objective type test, each correct answer will carry one mark and
each wrong answer will carry minus 0.25 mark. For the descriptive
type paper (Section III) there will be five marks for each question
(totalling 50 marks). However, Section III will be corrected in respect of
those applicants who qualify in the objective type test.

• There will be 50 marks for GD & PI, the distribution of which will be as
under:

Five marks for M.Phil/ NET/SET/ other test considered for exemption
for entrance test.
Maximum five marks for percentage in graduation

 
Maximum 10 marks for percentage in post-graduation
Maximum five marks for relevant experience/ Paper publication
Maximum 10 marks for performance in group discussion
Maximum 15 marks for performance in personal interview

10. Sample questions:

i) In the objective type test, there will be four alternatives to each


question for the answer. Only one of them will be correct.

For example, please see a sample objective question given below:

      ii)  For descriptive questions, please see the following sample question:

Question: (1) Describe the different forms of communication.

In every page of A-4 size, there will be two questions each. After one
question, space up to the middle of the page will be left blank for the
candidate to answer. In the second half of the page, the second
question will be printed, again leaving space for the candidate to
answer the question in the same page. There will be five such sheets,
i.e., 10 questions in all.
