Reaching Leuven from the airports:

You can reach Leuven easily from Brussels Airport. Travelling from Charleroi
Airport will take more time.

There is a direct train from the airport to Leuven (‘Louvain’ in French). It is


advisable to take only the direct trains to reach Leuven without having to
change trains.

Below is an overview of the trains on Friday:


Price: A one-way ticket to Leuven will cost €8,10. If you arrive on Friday and
depart on Sunday you can buy a weekend ticket for both journeys which costs
€13,60.

Return journey to Brussels Airport:

On Sunday the trains to the airport leave on an hourly basis. Again it is


advised to take the direct trains only.

A direct bus (‘Bus A’) travels between the airport and Charleroi Sud Station
with an interval of half an hour. The travel time is approximately 20 minutes.
The fare is €3. In the airport you can inquire after a bulk ticket, which is the
cheapest way to travel with bus and rail.

At Charleroi Sud Station there are regular trains to Leuven (‘Louvain’ in


French). First take the train to Brussel-Zuid/Bruxelles-Midi. There you can
take a direct train to Leuven. All trains at h57 take a different route via
Ottignies. In Ottignies it is also possible to take a direct train to Leuven. Travel
time is about an hour and a half.

depart on Sunday you can buy a weekend ticket for both journeys which costs
€10,20.

Return journey to Charleroi Airport:

Trains and busses are not as frequent on Sunday but there are enough of
them.

Again, first take the train to Brussel-Zuid/Bruxelles-Midi and change to the


train for Charleroi Sud. The trains at h28 take the alternative route via
Ottignies.

Reaching Leuven by high-speed rail:
 By Eurostar/Thalys: From Brussel-Zuid/Bruxelles-Midi

If you arrive by train in Brussel-Zuid/Bruxelles-Midi you can take a direct train


to Leuven (‘Louvain’ in French). Normally all trains with destination ‘Liège’ or
‘Genk’ pass through Leuven as well.

Price: A one-way ticket to Leuven will cost €5,20. If you arrive on Friday and
depart on Sunday you can buy a weekend ticket for both journeys which costs
€6,20.

Return journey to Brussel-Zuid/Bruxelles-Midi:

On Sunday there are regular trains back to Brussels.

Directions in Leuven:
Leuven is a small city and relatively easy to navigate. Below are a map and
brief directions between the station, the IBIS Centrum Hotel, the IBIS Budget
Hotel and the Lecture Hall where the conference will be held. Meals will be
served in the university cafeteria adjacent to the lecture hall.

For further directions (to other hotels etc.) we suggest you use Google Maps.
If you are unable to find the information you need, please send an email.

 IBIS Centrum Hotel: Brusselsestraat 52
 IBIS Budget Hotel: Martelarenlaan 10
 Lecture Hall: auditorium ‘Max Weber’, Parkstraat 71. If necessary, you
could always ask a student for the auditorium ‘Jean Monnet’ or ‘Max
Weber’ (same building). It is well known among Leuven students.
From the station to the IBIS Centrum Hotel (blue
route): Upon leaving the station you will enter a
square with a road to the centre of the city
(‘Bondgenotenlaan’). Follow this road until you reach
City Hall (see picture on the right). Then take the
Brusselsestraat. After about 5 minutes you should
see the IBIS Hotel on your right hand side.

From the station to the IBIS Budget Hotel (black


circle):
The IBIS Budget Hotel can be found behind the
station. In the station follow the arrows to ‘Kessel Lo’,
away from the city center.

From the IBIS Hotel to the lecture hall (green route): Return to City Hall.
When standing in front of it, take the road on its right (the Naamsestraat).
Follow this for about 10 minutes until you reach a road on your left called
Parkstraat. Follow it for a short while. The lecture hall is behind a red building
on your left hand side.

From the station/IBIS Budget Hotel to the lecture hall (red route):
When you come out of the station and standing in front of the
Bondgenotenlaan, you will see a road to your left that goes uphill. This is the
Maria-Theresiastraat. Follow this street for about 15-20 minutes until you
reach the Parkstraat on your right. Follow this street for a short while. The
lecture hall is behind a red building on your right hand side.
