Question:

What can slow down the performance of Allplan?

Note:

Please use the following FAQ for Allplan 2011 and later:
https://www.allplan-connect.com/en/faqid/20101118164337.html

Answer:

First check the following points:

1. Minimum hardware requirements

Detailed information is provided in the Install.hlpHelp file, which you can find on the installation CD in
the <CD-Rom>:\HelpFiles\Englishfolder.
Look for Hardware requirements.

2. Install the current version with the current hotfix (service release)
Install the current version and the current hotfix.
You can download the current hotfix/ service release from:
http://www.allplan-connect.de-> Support->Downloads -> select the current hotfix->Downloadand install
it.

Using Allplan, you can quickly check whether a service release is available for the current program version
installed.
In Allplan: Help->Nemetschek on the Web->Service Releases
This link takes you directly to the download area and you can see whether a Service Release is available.
3. Virus scanner
Check whether an anti-virus program is running in the background.
If so, reduce protection to "programs only".
The process of scanning "all files" can take a long time, considerably slowing down performance when you
switch projects or exit the program.

4. Name resolution on the network

If it takes Allplan one to two minutes to start, name resolution on the network may not work.
To check this, click
Start -> type in cmd -> ENTER -> type in Nslookup -> ENTER.
In the line following the > character, type in the name of the Allplan data server ->Return.
The reply starts with the server that provides name resolution and its address.
The second group lists the Allplan data server and its address.
If problems occur, name resolution needs to be configured correctly. Please contact your network
administrator.

5. Animation window
Check whether an animation window is open (Window -> 1 Viewport).

If you have problems with the animation window, check whether it contains large textures (consisting of more
than 500 x 500 pixels). To do this, click Modify ->Presentation ->Animation ->Surface Settings. These
textures may affect the graphics card's memory negatively.
To determine the textures, click "List redefined surfaces" in the Define (Colors of) Surfacesdialog box.
Textures are represented by symbols that are displayed to the right of the color. To make changes, select the
relevant color and click the Modify... button.

Test the following:

Save the surface definition as a *.sur file (click the icon with the floppy disk at bottom left in the Define
(Colors of) Surfaces dialog box) and then unlink the corresponding textures or reset the entire surface
assignment (click the blue round arrow to the right of the icon with the floppy disk).

6. Mouse driver
Check whether you use a Logitech mouse driver of Version 9.75 or later.
If so, do the following:
Install the current driver (at least Version 9.78), which you can download from Logitech's homepage
at http://www.logitech.de.

Logitech drivers provide a functionality that ensures acceleration for specific games. You can find more
information on Logitech's homepage.
Disable this functionality. To do this, click
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Mouse -> select the Movementtab -> deactivate acceleration in
games (select the check box).

7. Drawing files with large coordinates

If the performance problems occur with individual drawing files or projects only, this can be caused by the
combination of the following settings:

a. Large coordinates
Measure the coordinates of any point in the drawing file where the problems occur.
Does one of the coordinates exceed 5,000 m?

b. Setting for large coordinates

Is the following setting active?
Tools -> Options -> Global Options -> Miscellaneous tab -> Optimize working with large coordinates

c. Drawing file size

Are you dealing with a large drawing file (a lot of elements) or a large stack of drawing files?

If you can answer these three questions with yes, you have found the reasons for your performance
problems:
The setting for large coordinates has the effect that Allplan internally converts the drawing file data to smaller
coordinates every time you load and save the drawing file. As a result, large volumes of data lead to long
computing times.

Solution:
The only solution is to move the data to the origin. This is to avoid the time-consuming process of converting
the data.
If the exact coordinates are important (because you need to return them to specialist designers, for example),
you can apply an project offset, which means that you move the coordinates to the origin and then set an
offset to retain the correct coordinate values.

8. Turn off trace

Exit Allplan.
Start the Services application -> select the Service menu -> point toAllplan logging (trace)-> and
click Turn off.

If this does not make a difference, check the following setting:

Exit Allplan.
Start the Services application -> select the Service menu -> select the Hotline Tools-> and choose alltrace.
It is essentialthat you see the following message "alltrace : show detailed messages". If you see this
message, clickCancel.
If, however, "alltrace : do not show detailed messages" is displayed, select this hotline tool and click OK.

9. Turn off the display list

If switching between drawing files takes a long time, turn off the display list. To do this, select the View menu
->Show/Hide ->Display list(if this line is not highlighted in color, the display list is off).

10. Turn off CursorTips for point snap

If the performance problems primarily occur in conjunction with drawing files containing a lot of elements, do
the following:
Select the "Line" tool.
If "Advanced point entry" is active, open the shortcut menu (right mouse button) and click Point entry
options. If "Advanced point entry" is not active, click Point Snap on the Point Assistant toolbar.

On the Scan, Display tab, clear the Show CursorTipscheck box.

11. Select a different standard printer

Define a different printer as the standard printer for testing purposes:
Start-> Printers and Faxes or
Start ->Settings ->Printers.
Click a printer with the right mouse button and choose Set as default printer.

12. High-quality bitmap areas

If screen refresh operations are slow in particular in conjunction with drawing files containing bitmap areas, do
the following:
In Allplan select Tools -> Options -> Global Options -> clear the High-quality bitmap areascheck box.
However, this reduces the graphic quality of printouts. So, you may need to select this option again to
optimize the quality of bitmap areas in printouts.

Note:

If the steps described do not solve your problems, please contact us as follows:

• Send a Hotinfo.
Start ->(All) Programs-> Nemetschek->Allplan [version number]-> Hotinfo [version number] to
Allplan teamline. Select 01. General inquiry
• Please include the following information:
• When and where exactly do the performance problems occur (when starting, selecting a tool, switching
between drawing files, and so on)?
Please describe the situation as precisely as possible.
• How long does it take Allplan to start, select a tool, open a drawing file, ...?
• Does this problem occur on all workstations on the network?
If there is an identical computer without performance problems in your office, please send a Hotinfo from
this computer, too.
