13 January 2019 - The Baptism of the Lord
All four gospels tell the story of the baptism This week:
of Jesus. In Luke the details of the baptism
has less emphasis than the main event: the
descent of the Holy Spirit and the voice Sun 13 Epiphany
from heaven. Luke is also the only gospel 8am Said Mass (St G)
that refers to Jesus praying when all this 9:30 Sung Mass (St S)
happens. Thus, the event is a powerful 11am Sung Mass (St G)
religious experience which ultimately leads Mon 14:
to a new commitment and public action: the 6pm Mass (St G)
call from above for Jesus to begin his public St Raymond
ministry. Prayer and openness to the Tues 15:
intrusion of God into our lives often prepare 10am Mass (St S)
the way of our own calling to ever deeper Requiem for AH
discipleship and our pursuit of God.
