This document describes a rocker bogie mechanism for a multi-terrain vehicle that would allow physically challenged persons to overcome obstacles without assistance. The mechanism uses moving rocker and bogie links that are each attached to wheels, allowing individual links to clear obstacles while maintaining stability with all wheels on the ground. A chair would be attached to the rocker chassis via four legs to enable independent control and movement via joystick. This type of mechanism has applications beyond daily life, such as in NASA's Mars Exploration Rovers and for data collection in extreme environments like the polar regions.

ABSTRACT To develop a highly suspension mechanism such that physically challenged persons can overcome the obstacles (stair climbing, multi terrain surfaces etc.) without the need of others. This rocker bogie mechanism consists of moving links rocker and bogie. Since it consists of moving links it is able to climb obstacles easily. The term ‘Bogie’ refers to the links that have a driven wheel at each end. Bogie were commonly used as load wheels. The bogie is attached with rockers such that every link is made to overcome the obstacles individually with maintaining high stability by touching all wheels to the ground. To sum up this mechanism along with a chair. At first the four legs of the chair is attached to rocker chassis such that the chair is being attached to the rocker which intern is attached to bogie this makes us to enable to overcome obstacles. The person, who is sitting on the chair would be able to control his directions and movements using joystick by himself. This mechanism is not only limited to daily life applications. It can also be used in wide variety of applications. This mechanism has been used in Mars Exploration Rover by NASA. At extreme conditions like Polar Regions, where mankind survival is difficult, this mechanism can be used to collect valuable data.
