Guevara: A Lifetime of Service Worth Recognizing

Mechanical engineering may be technical, logical and calculated but just like any
other profession, passion and commitment fuels an individual to keep going and to keep
the profession into global excellence.
Per Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers’ tradition, a mechanical engineer who
has proven his worth and contribution in the industry and society is once again
recognized and awarded with the Don Tobias P. Marcelo Lifetime Achievement Award,
and is none other than Hon. Fernando S. Guevara, who truly embodies the spirit of the
award.
With his extensive experience in Mechanical Engineering Design, Hon. Guevara has
surely proven himself worthy of this prestigious recognition.
A professional engineer in the Philippines and in the States of Minnesota and California
in the USA, Hon. Guevara certainly achieved a sense of self-actuation and fulfillment in
practicing his first love profession.
Passion and commitment with hard work reflected in his performance as he has
designed award-winning projects such as the 6750 Office Building which won the
ASEAN Energy Award in 2004 and the Radisson Blu Hotel which was given an
Honorary Award in Energy Efficiency by the 2011 Emerson Cup, an international
organization that recognizes outstanding building design.
As an appointed member of the PRC Board of Mechanical Engineering in 2015, Hon.
Guevara not only wanted self-fulfillment and professional excellence for himself,
believing that fellow Filipino mechanical engineers can be the greatest engineers in the
world, he advocates and helps fellow mechanical engineers to level up their careers by
becoming professional ME.
In his acceptance speech during the awarding ceremony, Hon. Guevara expressed his
gratitude for the PSME, friends and fellow ME for the recognition. Thanking the
committee for deeming him deserving for the award.
As a child who take inspirations from fictional superhero characters, Hon. Guevara
though he do not wear capes and fight monsters, eventually lived up to these
superheroes’ aspirations, that is to be helpful and become a good standard to inspire
fellow mechanical engineers.
Indeed, a man worth looking up to and worth recognizing for his immeasurable
contributions to the engineering industry and the society.
