PRESIDENTS REPORT SPRING 2018

Hello to all P.I.H.A. members, professionals at our June Annual Meeting to answer
We have a freshly paved (Fall of 2017) parking lot
at the clubhouse and have recently (Jan./Feb.)
repainted and updated the swimming pool area as
we continue to make improvements and necessary
repairs to our facilities.
There have been 88 lots sold since the beginning of
2017 as we continue to make this a main priority.
We have brochures and tabletop displays ready to go
for future boating, camping, and outdoor shows. We
have joined ARVC to better enable us to get a booth
at upcoming shows this year. We are continuing our
campaign offering $100.00 off your dues if you refer
a "friend" for one (or more) of these county owned
lots.
Your board will continue on its course on the "fire
wise Program" with plans to start thinning and
cleaning up Crystal Point in 50 acre increments. We
plan to, once again, have a Forester and other

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Hello members of the Presque Isle Harbor
Association. I would like to take this opportunity to
introduce myself as the new Executive Director for
P.I.H.A. I will officially assume this position May 1st
2018. I was chosen by the board of directors to
replace Stephen Lang after many years of service as
your current Executive Director. I am excited to have
been chosen for this position with the realization I
have big shoes to fill as I feel Steve has done a
wonderful job the past four decades managing and
maintaining our association. I have spent the past five
years serving the association as the maintenance
manager and am looking forward to acclimating
myself to my new position with the association.

questions concerning our attempts to reduce fire
hazardous areas in our community as well as
promote healthy and "Fire wise" forest areas in our
association common properties.
Your board continues to meet on the second Thursday
of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the association
clubhouse. You are welcome to join us for these
meetings. We welcome and value your opinions.

I continue to be thankful for the people in our
community that are willing to donate their time and
talents to ensure that our little area of the world
remains the wonderful, peaceful surroundings that
we enjoy so much. If you would like to volunteer

The board and I wish you a warm spring, a sunny
summer, and great fishing and enjoyment of our
beautiful outdoor areas. We hope to see you at the
Annual Meeting on June 23 at 11:00 a.m.

Executive Director continued from page 1
I was born and raised in Presque Isle County in the
Village of Posen where I grew up on a large potato and
grain farm. I graduated from Posen Consolidated
schools in 1996 and furthered my education at
Alpena Community College with a degree in computer
sciences. My entire work career has been spent in the
area working in the construction and landscape
industry most recently as the maintenance manager
for the Presque Isle Harbor Association.
On a more personal note I have been married for 17
years to my wonderful wife Tamara. We have two
children, George age 15 and Macy age 12. I enjoy
fishing, hunting and spending time in the outdoors
with my friends and family. I have been a basketball
coach in the Posen school district for nearly two
decades beginning with youth basketball in the
P.I.B.A. and junior high teams having spent the past
five years coaching the Junior Varsity boys' team.
I am looking forward to the opportunity to maintain
and enhance the beautiful association we call home.

After being inside all winter - fun time for
summer is here again. There is a burst of
activities everywhere: swimming, fishing,
reading, picnics, barbecues, camping, ice
cream, garage sales—whatever type of
activity you want to enjoy.

GRAND LAKE BEACH HOUSE
Borrow a kayak, canoe or row boat; rent a fishing
boat. Group parties may rent the pavilion.
NORTH BAY BEACH HOUSE
Group parties may rent pavilion.
CAMPGROUND
Cabin and camper available for rent. Camper has a 3
day minimum with weekly rates. Check the bulletin
board at the campground for a re-start of the
campground committee and programs.
CLUBHOUSE
The Clubhouse has been updated and so has the pool
room. Stop in and be sure to check the bulletin board
for extra activities. The Association website has a new
look, please visit us at: www.presqueisleharbor.org We
have added "Email Splash" monthly to keep you up to
date on monthly happenings if you have provided your
email address.

ASSOCIATION TRAILS
There is no longer a coordinator of the trail
maintenance committee. Our maintenance employee,
Jacob and crew are maintaining the trails. If you are
interested, it would be helpful, while walking the trails
if you take note of downed trees and/or problems with
the trails and notify the Clubhouse.
NOTE: This could be a great volunteer group project
to help maintain these beautiful trails.
SECURITY PATROL
There is a great crew that continue to monitor homes
in the Association, . If you would like to be added to
the list of homes watched, please call the Clubhouse
for details. There is a fee of $104.00 for the year;
someone will check the outside of your dwelling twice
a week for an entire year. Small price to pay for
security and peace of mind.
MUSIC AT GRAND LAKE BEACH
Thursday nights, 7:30 pm til dusk. David Larkin
brings his guitar and encourages other to participate
by bringing an instrument and/or voice. Grab your
lawn chair and join in the fun and entertainment.
Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Area Groups & Other Activities (in cooperation with
the P.I. Harbor Association):
GRAND LAKE SAILING
Sailing lessons for youth from age 8 will be offered,
using the certified instructors from the Alpena Youth
Sailing Club and their optimist dinghies. Our five,
half day lesson schedule provides youth an
introduction to sailing as well as the camaraderie of
learning to sail with their peers. Last year we served
47 children. Grand Lake Beach: July 23rd - 27th,

WOMEN'S CLUB
3rd Tuesday, Bi-monthly (Jan, Mar, May, July,
Sept., Nov.), 12:30pm (Activity Hall). Meetings
usually include a speaker. They hold various
fundraisers and donate to numerous community
charities. Join to meet new friends, enjoy delicious
desserts and learn about your community.
SENIOR DINNERS
(P.I.C.C.O.A)- (usually) 3rd Sunday of every month
(Activity Hall) Senior Dinners are back! Please see
the bulletin board at the clubhouse for the dates

Grand Lake Community Chapel VBS (Vacation Bible
School) is July 9th-13, 9:00am - 11:30 am. There
will be a picnic at Grand Lake Beach July 12th
following VBS (noon). VBS is open to anyone ages 4 -
16. The theme this year is "Shipwrecked-Rescued by
Jesus", so come out and be a part of the Fun at VBS.

 PRESQUE ISLE MEN'S CLUB
1st Thursday, (every month)-9:00 am (Activity Hall). PIMC volunteers for road cleanup and provides volunteers
for community activities. A new Scholarship program (Alpena, Posen & Roger's City High Schools) is in place
with 3 recipients awarded $500 each. They enjoy monthly presentations or go out for a tour. Dues are $12.00
annually, which includes coffee and doughnuts.
