Welcome to Band!

Below are the expectations for students and parents in order to have a successful year in
band. As you read, please remember that band is a full year commitment and you are unable to
quit once this information has been turned in. Please sign and return the Performer Information Card
by Thursday, October 4th.

Rehearsals and Concerts

! All band rehearsals are held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, before school, from 7:40-8:50
a.m. in the music room.
! Students may arrive at 7:30 a.m. and must enter the front door of the school and report directly to
the music room. STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ARRIVE EARLIER THAN 7:30
AM. THERE WILL NOT BE AN ADULT HERE TO WATCH THEM.
! Rehearsals will begin promptly at 7:40 a.m.

Attendance
! Attendance is required for all band rehearsals and performances.
! If a student is excused from school on a band day, he/she is excused from rehearsal.
! Parent-Teacher Contact: If a student misses a band rehearsal for any reason, there must be
communication from the parent/guardian to the band director regarding the absence. The
parent can call, email, or send a note in with the student explaining why the student was not at
rehearsal.

Expectations
! Band is a full year commitment. If a student signs up for band at the beginning of the year,
they are NOT allowed to quit.
! Students are to be in their chairs and ready to begin rehearsal at 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday and
Thursday mornings.
! Attendance for rehearsals and concerts is required and essential for the success of the group!
! Band is an extracurricular activity and quality school behavior is expected in all rehearsals and
performances. If a student is not showing appropriate behavior he/she will lose the privilege
to participate in band.
! If there is a 2-hour delay on a Tuesday or Thursday, there will not be rehearsal.
! In order for the students to excel at their instrument, they need to practice at home. Students are
asked to practice 15-20 minutes a day from the practice assignments given by Mrs. Bryk. Each
instrument book has an online activation code that will allow them listen to each song. Not all
practice assignments given will come from the book.

Grade
! Your student will be given a grade for band. Their grade will be under the “Music” area of
their report card. Students will receive either an S+, S, S-, or N for their grade which is a
reflection on the progress they are making in class.
