To score responses and interpret the results:

There are negatively (1-3) and positively (4-6) worded items. On the
negatively worded items, the neutral and positive answers are scored as
“1”. Therefore, on questions 1-3 score Yes=1, More or less=1, and
No=0. On the positively worded items, the neutral and negative answers are
scored as “1”. Therefore, on questions 4-6, score Yes=0, More or less=1,
and No=1. This gives a possible range of scores from 0 to 6, which can be
read as follows: (Least lonely) 0 , 6 (Most lonely)

how often you feel that way.

Question Hardly Some of the Often

Ever Time

First, how often do you feel that you lack 1 2 3

companionship: Hardly ever, some of the time, or often?

How often do you feel left out: Hardly ever, some of the 1 2 3

time, or often?

How often do you feel isolated from others? (Is it hardly 1 2 3

ever, some of the time, or often?)

b
Item should be reversed before scoring.

Scoring : Items that are asterisked should be reversed (i.e., 1=4, 2=3, 3=3 , 4=1), and the
scores for each item then summed together . higher scores indicate greater degrees of
loneliness.

SCORING SIQ QUISIONER
The Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire-JR (SIQ-JR; Reynolds, 1987) is a self-report measure
developed specifically for young adolescents that requires approximately five to eight minutes to
complete. It can be group or individually administered. The SIQ-JR is composed of 15
items that are scored on a seven-point scale ranging from 0 (I never had this thought) to 6
(almost every day). Each item addresses a specific suicidal cognition (e.g., “1 thought about how
others would feel if I killed myself.” “I thought about how I would kill myself.” “I thought that
killing myself would solve my problems.“), and evaluates the frequency of the cog&ions during
the past month. The SIQ-JR is scored in a pathological direction, with higher scores indicating
greater severity of suicidal ideation.
