Holy Anointing, or Unction, is 1 of the 7 great
Mysteries of the Orthodox Church mentioned
in Holy Scripture (The Bible ) given for the
healing of body and soul as well as for the
forgiveness of our sins.
This service is performed by the priests who
act as vessels of the power of God by an
unbreakable chain of holy tradition all the
way back to Christ and His disciples
to bring healing to the world. We read,

“Jesus went throughout Galilee,

teaching in their synagogues,
proclaiming the good news of the
kingdom, and healing every disease
and sickness among the people.”
(Matthew 4:23) … and….

“Jesus answered them, “It is not the

healthy who need a doctor, but the
sick. I have not come to call the
righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
(Luke 5:31)
