CHAPTER I

Background of the Study

Transformer is the phenomenon of mutual induction between two windings linked by

common magnetic flux. Basically a transformer consists of two inductive coils; primary winding

and secondary winding. The primary winding is connected to the electric current source side

and the secondary winding to the load side. The coils are electrically separated but magnetically

linked to each other. When primary winding is connected to a source of alternating voltage,

alternating magnetic flux is produced around the winding. The core provides magnetic path for

the flux, to get linked with the secondary winding.

There are two types of transformer. The first one called Step-up Transformer which

voltage increase with subsequent decrease in current at secondary. The other one called Step-

down Transformer which voltage decrease with subsequent increase in current at secondary.

Statement of the Problem

This activity constructed to successfully construct a 12V, 1 Ampere Step-down

Transformer.

Significance of the Study

To the Electrical Engineering students, who shall be the primary recipients of the result

of this study will learn and especially gain experience in constructing a step-down transformer

and it let them understand more the logic of step-down transformer works.
CHAPTER II

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
