Current Issue No. 1

 El Nido rehabilitation deadline: 6 months

- Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu on Wednesday gave officials of El Nido, the

top tourist destination in Palawan province, six months to complete a rehabilitation
program to rid the town’s beaches of pollution and enforce environmental
compliance of commercial establishments. Cimatu made the announcement
during an inspection of the town’s main public beach in Bacuit Bay, where several
buildings had been partly demolished since early this year for exceeding easement
limits set by law.

- The government, he said, is preparing an executive order to be issued by President

Rodrigo Duterte detailing the rehabilitation plan for El Nido. He said the
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) would also ask the
national government to allocate funds for activities that the town would need,
including a plan to transfer the local port.

Insight of the Issue

- My insight for this issue is that the government cannot handle the situation at
early times. Pollution roams around the Philippines every time. One of its
victim is our natural resources given by our mother earth. One of it is the El
Nido, they take action when it is purely damage, that’s not the way it shoud
be. We should learn how to take care of this natural resources and preserving
it always by keeping the people who lives in El Nido to be responsible for
their trash at all times.

Recommendation

- I simply recommend that we should have seminars for those who lives at El
Nido. All those who visit ther should be warned for the causes of solid waste.
The Management should learn how to estimate the people coming back and
forth on El Nido for them to know how trash can be produced by the tourist.

 Baguio’s Environment situation still manageable

- Concerned Government agencies can manage the environmental issues and

concerns being raised against the local government without the needs to close.
Environmental Management Bureau – Cordillera Regional Director Reynaldo
Digamo said he has already pointed out to Environmental Secretary Roy
Cimatu and its attached bureaus are capable of working in the Environment of
Bagiuo.

Insight of the Issue

- My insight for this issue, I hope that the residents of baguio, the businessmans
out there that they should learn to love their environment to be able to take
care and not experiencing the 6 months closure like Boracay

Recommendation

- I simply recommend that they should have a strong will and law for the
environment. A strong coalition on taking care of environment will do
Current Issue No. 3

 DENR seeks return of trash to Korea

- Oficials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)

on Wednesday said they would file charges against those responsible for
bringing into the country 5,100 tons of trash from South Korea.

- Environment Undersecretary Benny Antiporda also said the government was

working to return the garbage while the DENR looked into the shipment’s
entry to the country through Misamis Oriental province.

Insight of the Issue

- My insight to this issue is that they shoul inspect all the cargo
containers and what it contains, they should not allow that process.
We are not a country who looks like a trash bin. They should get
their cargo containers back to them.

Recommendation
- I strongly recommend the government should be alert on this
situation. They should inspect more. They should secure all the
containers coming outside the Philippines.
