Dr. David Dean is the director of the Oral Medicine graduate program at the University of
Boise, ID 83702 Washington School of Dentistry, where he is also an assistant professor. A lifelong Husky, he
completed his BS, DDS, and MSD in Oral Medicine at UW. He returned as full-time faculty in
2014 after several years in general dental practice in Tukwila, WA.
Dr. Dean’s current clinical practice is split between the oral medicine services at UW and
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. He has been active in local and national continuing dental and
medical education speaking on a variety of Oral Medicine topics including the assessment and
management of common orofacial disorders, early detection of head and neck cancer, and dental
considerations in cancer therapy.
He is a diplomat of the American Board of Oral Medicine, a fellow in the Royal College of
Surgeons Edinburgh, and a Seattle Met “Top Dentist” in Oral Medicine. In 2016, he was
honored to receive the UW School of Dentistry’s highest teaching honor, the Bruce R. Rothwell
Distinguished Teaching Award and in September he represented the United States in the 7th
World Workshop of Oral Medicine in Göthenburg, Sweden. He lives in Edmonds, WA with his
wife, Dr. Brittany Dean and his dog Calvin. He loves collecting books and lifting heavy things.
