The Human Library: Everyone Has a Story to Share

T
his past Tuesday an event
was held at McConnell
Library called ‘The
Human Library.’ An affair
where people from various
backgrounds, cities, ethnicities,
and even countries came down
to share their experiences about
memories close to their hearts.
Many brought objects,
photos, and videos to express
their stories in a better fashion.
Some of the media they brought
with them were decades old,
showcasing how much their
memories and experiences had
an impact on their lives.
It was a true marvel to be
able to witness such a personal
and worldly history from people
who decided to settle in Radford.
From parents to psychologists,

eing at university is not
an easy job, especially
if you’re a first-year
student. Some of us do not even
know how to fry an egg or do our
laundry. However, most students
enjoy the challenge of learning
these skills, and discovering
oneself through their time here.
There are times in which
students can feel lost or anxious
about an assignment. Perhaps
there are times in which it is
overwhelming. That is why

the Peace and Mindfulness
Forum, there were
different speeches about
various people and how
they look deeply into
the field of mindfulness.
Surprisingly, the room
was full, and all the seats
were taken, so some of the
attendees had to stand in
the back.
Each of the people

she learned more from the
Mongolian people than they did
from her. She took part in their
culture, learned the meaning
behind several holidays, ate
their cuisine, and even took
part in the celebration of the

country, she found value where it
truly mattered, in its family and
culture; Singing to her heart’s
content with the nomadic
people, decorating their Yurts
(which are huts), and taking part
in their various customs.

this tech-savvy era, the young
generation can form a fuller

the medium which we are more
than familiar with.
As students, we frantically
fill up the calendar with club
meetings and crazy parties to
attend, so why not add just one
more engagement?
Civic Engagement.
Whether it is affordable
health care, gun control or
climate change, it is time for
young people to have their values
represented in government.
Nov. 6 will no doubt feel like
an average Tuesday here at
Radford’s campus, but if we get
out and vote, we could make
Nov. 6 a momentous day for this
generation and this country.
Polls are open from 6 a.m. to
7 p.m. at the Radford Rec Center.
If you are concerned about a

providing students with free
lifts to the polls. Uber and Lyft
will also be doing so.

afraid of them. Just take a breath
and think about life. Finding your
peace is being mindful. Having
a beginner mind is essential.
Never stop learning. Usually, we
are cognizant without knowing
that we are.
As said by Mahatma Gandhi,

the world.”

South Conference
Tournament in spectacular
fashion by beating High Point
2-0 Saturday night at Cupp
Stadium.
The Highlander’s were on
fire, shooting the ball a drastic
