Description of the Exercise

 Why does it look nice?

 What sets it apart from other similar buildings of same typology?
 How is it constructed?
 Would it work with your design?
 How did the architect make the building successful?
 Or, why is it a negative precedent?
 Is the design good?

Some of the things that you should consider are:

 Structure
 Scale
 Natural Light
 Materials and Surfaces (Materiality)
 Details
 Context
 Social / Cultural Impact
 Form 2D / 3D
 Access / Circulation
 Composition & Aesthetics
 Post Occupancy Analysis

Components:

 An overview of the architectural precedent. Where is it located? Who was

involved in the design, engineering, and construction? When was it built (or
designed, if unbuilt)?

 Details of at least three unique components used in the structure. What are
the dimensions of these components? Of what material are they made?

 An overview of how each of these component assemblies joins to the others

in the architecture to form a whole. The entire structure does not need to be
represented to convey this information, but enough detail should be
included such that the progression from component to assembly to whole is
apparent.
