This 96-hour program is perfect for CNAs and other patient care professionals who want to become
Certified Patient Care Technicians (PCT). Students will learn how to draw blood from patients or donors
and assemble equipment such as needles, blood collection devices, gauze, tourniquet, cotton, and alcohol.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the National Healthcareer

This is how to identify heart problems, how to perform 12-lead electrocardiograms (EKG), how to

This 102-hour course which is designed to train entry-level medical interpreters in English/Spanish and

This 75-hour certificate program prepares students to follow a rewarding career path in the industry.

CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT (CNA)
PREREQUISITE: High School Diploma or GED/HSE
This 130-hour program is approved by New York State and provides both classroom instruction and a 30-
hour clinical externship. Coursework includes anatomy and physiology, basic life support, and
fundamentals of patient care. During the final six weeks of class, students are assigned to a clinical
ALLIED/HEALTH ADMINISTRATION
externship in a nursing home.
CNAs work under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), licensed practical nurse (LPN), physician
assistant (PA), nurse practitioner (NP), medical doctor or other supervisory staff in a healthcare facility.
Students will learn how to assist patients with daily living tasks and provide basic care services such as
bed making, grooming, and taking vital signs.
If clinical rotation is not completed in the class for which you registered, you will be required to pay
a fee for a newly scheduled clinical rotation.

This Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Assisted Electric Defibrillation (AED) certification is
customized for the professional health and rescue professions. This course provides students with the
basic techniques of adult and pediatric CPR such as how to save a life by delivering timed compressions
to a person’s chest cavity when cardiac arrest occurs. Students will also learn to use an Automated
External Defibrillator (AED). Upon successful completion of this course, students receive an American
Heart Association Heart Saver CPR/AED completion card, valid for two years.

This 472-hour course is designed to prepare students to work as multi-skilled health professionals, and
perform administrative and designated clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative
duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing and coding for
insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories,
preparing patients for examinations, drawing blood and administering medications as directed by a
physician.
With the integration of clinical and administrative skills (Medical Terminology, EKG, Phlebotomy, Vital
Signs, CPR, Electronic Health Record, Medical Billing and Coding, test preparation) students will gain

Jackie Kellso, president of PointMaker Communications, presents another 4-hour seminar that teaches you the
skills needed to communicate with people in a sensitive and effective manner. Becoming aware of how
we communicate; the words we use and how we say what we say, especially when there’s conflict or a difficult
situation, determines the level of trust, respect and credibility we receive, and impacts our reputations. In order

PROCESS SERVER
PREREQUISITE: High School Diploma or GED/HSE
Under New York City law, individuals are now required to pass an exam in order to obtain or to renew a
Process Server individual license. This license is required of all individuals performing services within the
city of New York.
Process serving refers to the procedure of serving summonses, notifications, and other relevant documents
that provide legal notice of a court action, in accordance with due process requirements. This is done in an
effort to exercise jurisdiction, or legal authority, over the person served, to enable that person to respond
to the proceeding before a court, administrative body or other tribunal. Thus, a process server delivers
legal documents in accordance with the process dictated by the laws of the city of New York.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
This 8-hour seminar prepares students for the New York Process Server individual exam. The seminar
covers topics such as all City, State, and Federal regulations that a process server must know in order to
serve papers legally and properly. This course will include how to locate recipients, how to prepare
affidavits of service, what records are required, bond requirements, what licensing fees are required, how
to provide proof of proper service, and what electronic device rules come into play.
Upon successfully passing the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs exam and fulfilling city
requirements, a licensed process server can work for themselves. There is no educational requirement or
testing to register for this class.

PARALEGAL STUDIES CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

This 102-hour intensive program emphasizes the practical skills needed to succeed as a paralegal. Students
will learn about the legal process, ethics, court structure, interviewing. research skills, document
preparation, writing and analysis, torts, contracts, and more.The instructors are practicing judges, lawyers,
and paralegals. The course includes job interview preparation, field trips to the New York County
Criminal Court to view arraignments, and visits to a law library.
Students must successfully complete both parts to satisfy certificate requirements.

Housed in a new state of the art facility within a historic Manhattan neighborhood, The City College of
New York, Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture (SSA) is now seeking applicants for its pre-
college and college level Architecture Summer Career Lab. Uniquely positioned in the only public school
of architecture in New York City, the SSA Architecture Summer Career Lab exposes those considering a
career in design to the theory and practice of architecture through lectures, workshops, office tours, and
design studios. This course is taught by our award-winning and internationally recognized faculty.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Through an emphasis on hand craft and digital fabrication, interdisciplinary research, ecologically and
culturally sustainable practices, you will get to explore the many ways you can engage in the practice of
architecture while learning about new theories, materials and technologies.
The four-week, SSA Architecture Summer Career Lab provides students with the practical experience
required to make an informed and meaningful career choice.

Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) is considered by far the most
essential certification in the environmental consulting industry. OSHA’s HAZWOPER standard
applies to employees who engage in the following:
• clean-up operations at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites
• corrective actions involving clean-up operations at sites covered by the Resource Conservation and
Recovery Act of 1976
• voluntary clean-up operations at sites recognized by federal, state, local, or other governmental body as
uncontrolled hazardous waste sites
• operations involving hazardous wastes that are conducted at treatment storage, and disposal facilities
• emergency response operations for releases of hazardous substances regardless of the location of the

websites. Students receive practical training in JavaScript, PHP, and career development, including

Python is a general purpose, cross-platform programming language with clear, readable syntax that
makes it an ideal introduction to the logic of programming. This course uses a comprehensive, hands-on
curriculum designed to teach students a powerful programming language popular for creating business

applications, web applications, and creating and performing data analysis. Learn to design, code, and

This 60-hour course provides intensive preparation for students who need to refresh their skills to pass the
Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) exam.
Coursework is divided into two separate components, each lasting two and
one-half (2.5) hours: English Language Arts/ELA (Science, Social Studies, Reading, Writing) and Math.
*Students must pass all 5 subjects of the TASC Readiness Test and meet attendance requirements
to be scheduled for the TASC exam at CCNY’s Testing Center. Only ONE exam will be scheduled

Este curso de 60 horas proporcionará una preparación intensiva a estudiantes que necesiten actualizar sus
habilidades para aprobar el Examen de Equivalencia de Nivel Secundario (TASC) y obtener el Diploma
de Estudios Secundarios (HSE). Se ofrecerán cursos particulares.
El curso será dividido en dos módulos, cada uno de una duración de dos horas y media (2.5 horas):
Módulo 1 incluye ciencias naturales, estudios sociales, lectura y redacción. Módulo 2 incluye
matemáticas.

Online Beginner ESL
In today’s competitive world, speaking English fluently is a must. The 5-steps to Learning English course is
the first of three online courses for students looking to speak, write, read, and listen to American English.
This elementary course will cover the fundamentals of reading, writing, conversation, listening, and accent
reduction by way of media such as videos, photos, audio files, charts, text teach, vocabulary, grammar,
spelling, digital presentations and accent reduction exercises. Students will have ample opportunities to read,
write, listen, speak, and pronounce American English through the use of interactive exercises and
assignments. Lastly, the course will cover 50 hours of curricular material that will be archived and available to
students on Mondays of each week.

PAYMENT PLAN
Students may apply for a payment plan on open courses with tuition of $500 or above. Payment plans do
not apply to Online registrations. If interested please visit the Office of Continuing and Professional
Studies or call 212-650-7312. To register for a payment plan, a 50% payment is required, and a credit/
debit card must be maintained on file. Full tuition must be paid before the course begins.

DISCOUNTS:
-Senior citizens receive a discount of $25 off the price of any open course costing $99 or more (except
computer courses).
-CCNY faculty, staff, and students receive a 15% discount on courses (except where exclusions may
apply).
-To receive a tuition discount you must register in person and show an appropriate ID to demonstrate you
are currently studying or working at CCNY.
-Discounts cannot be combined with other offers. Discounts are not available for all classes

COURSE CANCELLATION
Continuing and Professional Studies courses are subject to a minimum enrollment. We reserve the right to
cancel any class that does not meet the minimum enrollment required. If a course is cancelled, students
may receive a full refund or speak to staff for additional options.
CLASSROOM LOCATION
Classroom information will be posted in Shepard Hall, Room 2, on the first day of
class.
TEXTBOOK/MATERIALS INFORMATION
Books and other materials are not included in the cost of a course unless otherwise noted. Textbook
requirements are printed on all receipts.
REFUND POLICY
If CPS cancels a course, a 100% refund, including the registration fee, will be given. If a student cancels, a
refund request must be submitted in writing (via email or in person) five business days prior to the first
day of class. If the student withdraws at least five business days prior to the first day of class a 100%
refund will be given (less the $25 registration fee).
There are no refunds on one or two day workshops. Non-attendance does not constitute a withdrawal or
request for refund.
A refund takes approximately 4-5 weeks after the Office of Continuing and Professional Studies receives
your request. Refunds are credited to the card charged or issued by check to the payer of record. Money
orders and business check payments are refunded via a check mailed four to five weeks after a course
withdrawal or cancellation. Refunds are not given after the first class session.
CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS
Our certificate programs are designed to equip individuals with the appropriate level of skills in the least
amount of time possible to prepare for the workforce. Most programs require at least a High School
diploma or Test to Assess Secondary Completion
