Causes Mary’s decision to marry Phillip was one of the causes of the rebellion. There were also fears that Mary would be dominated
by her husband and that England would be dragged into the Habsburg wars, and this would bring no benefit to England.
Mary’s arrival to the throne made that many former supporters of the Edwardian regime lost their positions, they saw the
rebellion as the only way to reverse a decline in their political fortunes.
